I knew these poems when I was a teenager called Sunshine or Phyllis Eve, and they still hold a place in my heart. Eve Adam, a.k.a. Harmonic Eve

Eve Adam, a.k.a. Harmonic Eve, May 2005. |
This was a time when a "nice" girl would not wear makeup, not even eyebrow pencil and possibly not even lipstick. She certainly would never consider dying or bleaching her hair. Lipstick was just beginning to be accepted by "nice" girls. I tried it and soon gave it up because I thought it was too dark to go with my pale yellow eyebrows. I would never have considered using eyebrow pencil or mascara, and I certainly had no need or desire to change my hair color. We were seeing print ads and movies where models and actresses did wear makeup and even dye or bleach their hair, but it was not for "regular" women and girls if we wanted to be considered respectable. Now I see that it is true that what is acceptable in grooming depends on the expectations of other people. Just as there are styles in grooming, there are styles in poetry. My hope is that you will find these poems, though no longer in "style," still quite appealing.
