This particular piece may be a little more difficult to play than others I have presented, partly because of the 5/4 time signature, and partly because of the rapid repetition of chords. It is, however, much easier to play than Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #2. I used to love that one, but have you ever seen the sheet music for it? I purchased it as a teenager. I gave up before mastering it. Now I find beauty in simpler musical ideas, especially more than one voice at a time. I have been influenced by Bach and by my experiences singing in a choir, but I do believe some of Liszt has motivated me for this particular #14 from my suite. Harmonic Eve, March 31, 2005 |
