1401 - Presentation of Master WILLIAM FERYBY to the church of Horncastle co. Lincoln in the king's gift, dated 2 Jun. (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1399-1401.1903/1971, vol. 1 p. 306).

1401 - Commission durng the king's present journey to Scotland to JOHN FERIBY and John Bryan, to take ships for the carriage of wheat, wine, ale, beans, and other victuals for expense of the king's husehold on this journey (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1399- 1401.1903/1971, vol. 1 p. 335).

1401 - Whereas by inquisition taken before Nicoas Dudle mayor of Coventry (et al.) it was found that after the marriage between John Gauntpee of Coventry and AGNES the sister of WILLIAM DE FERIBY clerk, deceased, who made forfeiture to the king on account of a judgement against him the said John by charters enfeoffed the said William in fee simple of all his lands, rents, ervices, etc. in Coventry and elsewhere within co. Warwick... and the said William had no estate there in exception the king with assent of council grants to them all the premises not exceeding 20L yearly which were taken into his hands by the escheator in said county, dated 26 June (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1399- 1401.1903/1971, vol. 1 p. 550). Note: this concerns the seized estate of WILLIAM DE FERIBY chaplain to King Richard II who was executed by Henry IV for his plot against him. See also other similar papers related to this case; ibid. pp. 496, 506, 517, & 533-4. The 533-4 entry says "whereas lately after the marriage of John Gauntpee and AGNES..." and is dated 26 June.

1402 - Whereas the pope made a grace and provision to WILLIAM FERYBY, chaplain, master in arts, and bachelor in canon law of certain dignities and prebends in cathedral churches of York and Lincoln and the collegiate church of Beverley, the king pardons the obtaining of the bull and grants licence for its' execution, dated 12 March (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1401 -1405.1903/1971, vol. 2 p. 54).

1402 - Commission during pleasure to TOMAS FERIBY of the office of controller of the great custom, subsidy of wool, hides, wool fells and the petty custom in the port of Kingston on Hull and ports and places adjacent, receiving accustomed fee, dated 11 July (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV,1401-05.1903/1971, vol. 2 p. 111).

1403 - Commission to William Thyrning knt., Arnald Trussell knt. sheriff of Warwick (et al.) to enquire into a petition of William Wymundeswold and Katherine his wife showing that John Gauntpe of Coventry was lately seised in his demesne of diverse lands in Coventry, viz. a grange in 'le Hullstrete' with a garden adjoining, a cottage in the same street, 2 other cottages and a 'pagenthous' in the same, ..., 2 other cottages..., a great field called 'Muryholt', and other fields called 'Chilternfeld', 'Chilternhull', 'Wymullefeld' and granted the same to Hugh de Meryngton... until the said John and AGNES unjustly removed them... it was found that WILLIAM FERYBY, clerk, who made his forfeiture to the king, died seised in his demesne as of fee in the same, but he never had any right to them (the said properies), dated 17 May (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1401 -1405. 1905/71, vol. 2 p. 278).

1403 - Grant for life to the king's servants JOHN FERIBY and Roger Woodhele of all lands of Lewis Duyap David ap Jevan in Wales forfeited to the king because he rose against him with the rebel Owen Glendower to the value of 20L, dated 12 Nov. (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1401 -1405. 1905/71, vol. 2 p. 327).

1406 - JOAN DE FERYBY relict of THOMAS of York, Will, date: 1 Mar. 1406, proved 8 Mar. 1406, Items: to be buried at St. Martin Coneystrete next to husband, 25L to St.Martin's church, 11 shillings to St. John's collegiate church at Beverley, small bequests to Agnes de Bydsall, John de Bydsall, John C---, John Talbot, Robert de Clifford chaplain, Thomas Bell de Bydsall, John Bell de Bydsall, executors Robt. de Clifford and John Talbot (PCY, vol. 3,pp. 259B, 260A). Note: Bydsall = Birdsall a village in E. Riding of Yorks 4 mi. SSE of Malton. The parish church of St. Mary's Birdsall contains the 1300s tomb of Lady de Birdsall (Genuki web site, Birdsall parish entry).

1406 - Whereas Pope Innocent in his first year made a grace and provision of churches in Shaftesbury and Wilton to THOMAS FERIBY late clerk and secretary to the king's uncle Thomas Duke of Gloucester deceased, grants pardon and grants execution of the bull, dated 6 June (PRO. _Calendar of Patent Rolls Henry IV 1405 -08. 1907/71, vol. 3 p. 108).

1406 - Revocation of the letters patent granting the hospital of St. Deweys Northants in the diocese of Lincoln to JOHN FERIBY one of the clerks of the household as at suit of John Greyby complaining that he was lately presented the hospital by the prior and convent of St. Andrew, but the said FERIBY falsely suggested that the hospital was vacant... 1408 - Confirmation to Thomas Sutton master, John Wenlock, Thomas Wilby, ADAM FERYBY & Ralph Shoklace wardens of the fraternity of the tailors and armourers of linen armour of the city of London... that may acquire in mortmain lands to the value of 100L and have a common seal, implead and be impleaded, by the king for 100L paid in the hanaper, dated 3 Aug. 1408 - JOHN FERIBY (d.1441), clerk to the King, appointed by a grant of 3 Jan. 1408 to the wardenship of St. Michael's Hospital Llandeweryn, Wales (Calender Patent Rolls, 9 Henry IV, pt.1, m12, 1408).

1409 - John Nowell esq. v. John Puddesay, knt., and THOMAS DE FERYBY. Re: Assault on Rednesse manor, which petitioner had of the grant of Dame Katherine, late the wife of Thomas Rednesse, knt., and seizure of goods and chattels, etc. (PRO, C 1/3/141). (( Reedness manor is located on the Don River near Thorne in Whitgift parish, West Riding of Yorks. John de Puddesay and wife Alicia are listed as residents of Doncaster, Yorks. in the subsidy rolls of 1379. Sir John de Pudsey (b. ca. 1360, d. Apr. 1433) married Margaret dau. of Sir William de Eure, was a son of Henry de Pudsay (d. 10 Nov. 1424) by Elizabeth dau.of John de Laton of Barforth. The Puddesay or Pudsay were lords of Bolton by Bolland, Yorks. for over 500 years (Littledale, Ralph Pudsay. _The Pudsay Deeds, Yorkshire Archaeological Society, vo. 56, 1916, pp. 23-9 passim). Lord Thomas Redness de Whitgift, knt., his will dated 6 Oct. 1407 and prob. 6 Dec '07 (Surtees Soc. vol.4 p.348), items: to wife Katherine, to "Alice Redness vaccam et porcum pinguem".) A grant made in 1397 of lands in nearby Aldingfleet the home of the Usflete family (John Usflete m. Emma Fereby ca. 1335) names witnesses, Gerard de Ufflete, kt., Thomas de Rednesse, kt., Thomas de Egmanton, Richard de Eyvill, John de Hustewayt etc. (Notts Archives, Deeds re Adlingfleet Humberside, ref.  SY570/Z/1/2  - date: 13 May 1397).

1410 - Licence for 20 marks paid in hanaper by Willam Bourgchier knt., John Basset, & William Aylmire for them to enfoeff; Rich. (and 5 others) to enquire about a report of JOHN FERIBY and William Pound asserting that they were appointed by king's com. in the first year to take corn and other victuals from co. Held at Hailsham after the death of MAUD, late the wife of Thomas de Vere, Earl of Oxford. She held for life the manor of Westdene, with reversion thereof to Thomas, Archbishop of Canterbury, Gerard Braybrok, kt., THOMAS FERYBY, clerk, John Bray of Ippeworth and Nicholas Mils, clerk, by virtue of a Fine levied, in the octave of St. Martin, 18 Richd. II. (1394). The manor was held of John Pelham, chivaler, as of the Honour of Aquila, service unknown. The said Maud died on Wednesday in the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, then last past. JOHN FEREBY also named at the 27 Dec. 1415 Inquisition Post Mortem of Michael de la Pole (1394-1415) 3rd Earl of Suffolk, who was killed at Agincourt. Also named: Richard Santon, John Portington, and Simon Burton (Yorkshire Inquistions Post Mortem Hen. IV & V, p.112).
