2010 WINTER BELLY DANCE CLASSES

BELLY DANCE CLASSES WITH JAHEELA New Cumberland Wednesday Nights 6:30 to 7:30 pm Mothers, Daughters, Grandmothers:  Raqs Sharqi or Belly dance is a wonderful way to develop grace and tone up while having fun. This low impact exercise is suitable for women of all ages.   Jan. 20, 27 Feb. 3, 10 Level I: This 4-week session is an introduction to posture, stance, basic movements and body isolation. Each class includes warm-up stretches, detailed instructions on movements with an emphasis on grace and working within your body's comfort zone.  Class music ranges from Rock'nRoll oldies to popTurkish.   Feb. 24  Mr  3, 10, 17, 24  Level II: This 5-week session will continue to work on good posture, reviewing and expanding on movements from Level I. The class will work on a short drum solo choreography and basic Middle Eastern rhythms will be explained.   April. 7, 15, 21, 28 Level III: This 4-week session will include warm-ups with "Body Dictionary" review of moves and a new choreography that may be done with or without zils (finger cymbals). Class will include instruction on basic Middle Eastern rhythms and use of zils.  (limited number of sets available for class use). Cheap zil sets may be found at local bookstores. Time permitting, other props will be demonstrated (sword, cane and veil) Location: Highland Elementary Cafeteria, New Cumberland Costs - To be announced. She is is a member of the Greenwood Muse music ensemble. She has a background in Mideval and Renaissance music and dance. Jaheela is highly skilled in rhythms and has an eye for dance technique and guiding dancers to a polished performances.

BELLY DANCE CLASS WITH ELISHEBA NEW LOCATION!!!! New Cumberland Thursday nights - 7:00 tp 8:30 PM Have Belly! Will Dance! Middle Eastern belly dance is a wonderful way to develop grace and tone up while having fun. Suitable for women of all ages, belly dance is great form of low impact exercise for older women. Each class will warm up with exercises and belly dance movement that strengthens the core muscles followed by dance technique and choreography. Some belly dance class experience helpful, but not required. Jan 21st - February 25th, 2010 6 weeks Turkish Belly Dance - wil focus on the fundamentals of the karsilama - a traditional Turkish 9/8 rhythm. Class will include a choreography to a traditional Turkish folk number. Dance can be done alone or with a veil or gypsy skirt.  March 11th - April 22th (No class April 1st) 6 weeks Slow, gentle choreography to the romantic  chefti teli rhythm found in Turkish and Greek music. Class will cover the fundamentals of the chefti teli annd will also focus on slow controlled yet powerful movement in belly dance performed to taksim and slow tempos. Slow, controlled dance is challenging and great for toning. Veil optional. May 6 - May 27th 4 weeks Belly Jazz! Get the heart rate going with a fun funky choreography to music with a Middle Eastern sound by the PussyCat Dolls.    Location: Highland Elementary Cafeteria, New Cumberland Costs - To be announced. 2010 WORKSHOPS!

FEBRUARY 14TH - WORKSHOP with MIRAJ!!!! Miraj would like to take this opportunity to teach a sweet choreography to Janet Jackson™s "Runaway".  It will be presented as a zill number for students who are already adept at playing the longa pattern. Students who are not comfortable with zills will still love learning this choreography which is perfect for solo, duet or troupe. Recommended for intermediate students, the number was performed by Troupe Miraj at a professional performance/New Years Eve party in 1997 and was well received.
