12th Infantry in Iraq

In 1995 the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry was "reflagged" as the 1st Battalion.... so our battalions' linage continues on.

In 2003 the 1-12th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division was deployed to Iraq from Ft. Carson, CO.

October 24, 2003
"Soon after his brother died in an automobile accident, Jose Mora got in shape to join the Army. He worked his way up from a riflemn to a Bradley Fighting Vehicle driver to a Bradley gunner. He was stationed at Fort Carson. Mora was killed Oct. 23 in a mortar attack in Samarra, Iraq. Survivors include his wife, Biana; and three children, Malory, 6, Damion,4 and 9-month-old Briana."

2-12 INFANTRY ACTIVATED AND IN IRAQ
The 2d Battalion was re-activated in 2006 and is (as of December 2006) fighting in Iraq. The Battalion is a unit in the 2d BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM (2BCT) of the 2d INFANTRY DIVISION ("Indianhead") OPCON to 1st CAV.

JACK SMITH (1946–2004)

Jack Smith, 58, Vietnam veteran and TV reporter died April 9, 2004 of cancer.

Smith was the son of legendary reporter Howard K. Smith and survived the bloody massacre at LZ Albany in Vietnam. He was Pfc. Jack Smith and was awarded the Bronze Star (Valor) and Purple Heart.

Mr. Smith used his personal Vietnam experiences as a host on television; A&E Biography, the Discovery Channel, and the award winning series "Vietnam: The Soldier's Story."
