Unique SMALL Model Engines (by Donald Garry)

Here you will see two some what unique Model engines. The first engine will be an Inline Twin and the second will be a front intake side-port induction single cylinder engine. Both of these engines are made from basic stock Cox small engine parts. The Inline Twin is basically two Cox Reed Valve .049 engines with dual side reed-valve induction ...... there are a few parts on this engine that are custom fabricated on my small Unimat lathe. The Inline Twin incorporates the Pee Wee .020 reed and reed housings while the venturis are from the Tee Dee .010 engine.
The intake on the single cylinder front intake side-port inducted engine comes from the Cox Tee Dee .020 and incorporates a round aluminum stand-off from the local hardware store.
Enjoy the photos and please click on the appropriate ".wav" links to hear sound clips of these two engines actually running.

Inline Twin

This is a photo of the twin cylinder engine actually running ..... these runs are from the very first test runs. Click on the following links to hear the engine running. The engine is alternate firing and you will hear it being started on only one cylinder and shortrly after you will hear the second cylinder light off ...... the harmony of an Inline Twin, there is nothing like it!

This is the Inline Twin after I have installed the Twin-Slot exhaust (no sub-piston induction) cylinders with throttle sleeves ..... with this combination the engine will swing a Rev-Up 8-4 prop at about 14,800 RPM top end with a low end idle of about 4.000 RPM.

Here are a couple threads from the Stuka CL talk forum in regards to this engine, plus other neat 1/2A engine stuff! Note my postings (injunnut1) in particular for more info on this Twin Engine. When you open this link the first post will take you to yet another previous and more entertaining link full of info and good stuff!

And the Model for the Inline Twin?

I hope to soon build this "Kalinin K-4" model especially for the Cox Inline Twin .098 cu.in. R/C powerplant. I have managed to find a rubber power Plan of this model and have enlarged the plan to about 350 sq.in.. Actually the model is a fairly simple build (see 3 view photo). I do LOVE the "Spitfire" type wing and the overall unique lines of this old Russian Airplane!

In particular too, I like the inline power plant used in the original Airplane ..... my Cox Inline Twin will make a neat match to the model maybe?
