( )-WPIAL Championship Meet Placement * *-PIAA Championship Meet Placement 5/27/07 3:00 pm As of now, all marks from the 2007 PIAA AA Track and Field Championship Meet are included in the 2007 WPIAL AA Final Rankings and incorporated into the All-Time WPIAL Top 25 List. If you have marks that will alter the final rankings, please report them to me as soon as possible. You've heard the old saying "I've seen worse, but I really can't remember when!" That pretty much sums up my opinion of AA's performance at Shippensburg this past weekend. There is no way to sugarcoat it, the WPIAL had a very weak state championship meet. Total medal count fell from 21 in 2006 to 16 this year, which is ten less than in 2005. And for the first time since way back in the last millenium, the WPIAL came home without a gold medal. The biggest disappointment, however, was in the field events. For what is believed to be the first time in history, the WPIAL earned no medals at all. Nary a girl bettered her mark at Shippensburg.
Earning a silver medal for the second year in a row in the 1600 run was Neshannock's Kacey Gibson. The defending WPIAL and PIAA AA cross country champion turned in a personal best 4:59.86, leaving her in 12th place on the All-Time WPIAL Top 25 list. The WPIAL's other bronze medalist was Chartiers-Houston's Samantha Simile. The Robert Morris bound senior improved upon last year's fifth place finish and in the trials on Friday recorded a personal best 45.35, putting her back on the All-Time WPIAL Top 25 chart. Also of note from the meet: Mt. Pleasant junior, Taylor Funk, was a double individual PIAA medalist as she placed 4th in both the 100 (15.12) and 300 (45.79) hurdles. Burrell sophomore, Taylor Myers, was the model of consistency in the 800 meter run. During the trials on Friday, she clocked a PR 2:16.63 (25th on the All-Time WPIAL list), then came back on Saturday to earn a 5th place medal with a nearly identical 2:16.68. Taylor also ran a leg on Burrell's 4 X 400 relay team which won a PIAA medal for the 4th year in a row. jfaiella@webtv.net (to submit marks) 1-425-955-4849 (fax) http://community.webtv.net/jfaiella (website)
