~Jill's Baby~

I remember crawling
up on the piano bench
at my Grandmother's
house with a pacifier
in my mouth. I would
play every key hoping
that a song would pop
out somewhere in between
all the banging. Then, when
I would think that I actually
heard something familiar
emerge, I would look at my
"audience" and revel in the
applause. My love for the
piano grew as each Sunday
was spent at my grandmother's
house for a huge dinner
and more "recitals".

I took piano lessons throughout high school and college. I even taught piano lessons for several years until I began working full time as a Social Worker. Now , I play for our church and occasionally for weddings, funerals, and whatever else comes along. I play with all my heart and all my soul, and while I may not be among the greats, it is my joy and my pleasure to bring a little music into the world for those who have time to listen.

I am in the process of having a piano restored by Mr. Perry Barker. It is a Knabe
Grand Piano built in 1955. The piano belonged to my church and was in very bad need of extensive repairs. It had been donated to the church by Mrs. Imogene Stanley and family many years ago. The piano had belonged to Mrs. Stanley's mother. The church had put a lot of "miles" on it over the years, and found that the repair work was more "intense" than planned. Damage had also been done to it by an inexperienced technician who had used the wrong kind of oil on the pin block causing it to rust . When that happens, the strings won't hold and then you really have a mess.

This piano is so very special to me. I had all of my piano recitals on it as I was growing up. Twice a year, Christmas and Spring my blood sweat and tears were embedded in the keys of this piano. But it was these recitals that made it so much easier for me to play for the public in later years, and I am so grateful for that.

I would like to mention that I had a very talented piano tuner for the last 15 years or so, His name was Robert Formsma. He also reworked pianos and was planning to restore mine. However, shortly before he was to pick it up, he was killed in a car accident. It was by sheer coincidence that I found Mr. Barker. Not only were they good friends, but also occasionally worked on projects together. It is with pleasure that I dedicate this site to the memory of Robert Formsma and in appreciation of Perry Barker
