My MSNTV(WEBTV) Story

In the biginning

First let me tell you just how I got started with webtv now msntv. Back for Christmas of 1998 my brother had got me and my mom the old sony classic.

Then in the spring of 1999 after I had got my tax refund I got a hp 429c printer and the printer adapter for the old pm classic and I then found out that you could not use it with the old sony classic and vise verse. So I had got the old pm classic and had called 1-800-GOWEBTV(469-3288) to transfer my account from the old sony classic to the old pm classic. Now don't tell me, I know now that the new pluses and classics came out in 1999, but I did not know it at the time that any new boxes were coming out at the time.

So since I did not have my own isp back then and had a special dialing plan from the phone company that costs $15.00 a month then and calling gowebtv at the 800 number above and getting no where. I just ended up hooking up the old pm classic and was albe to just transfer my account like that.

Then for Christmas of 2000 I got the PM MAT976KB, that is the new PM plus that comes with the new styled wireless keyboard. With the old classic I was using a wired keyboard since the old classics had the wired keyboard plug in back of the box.

And also along the was starting in 1999 I learned html and also learned a little javascript too. And I am still learning. :-)

Ok now for Christmas of 1999 I had got the computer my brother had got me, it is a older one, upgraded with a modem and sound card along with some other things and then in Jan. of 2000 I had got my own isp and had started using to connect to webtv.

OK now this bring me to today. The other day I had went to http://support.msn.com and clicked on the link for the msn dialup access numbers and had typed in my phone number like it asks you to and clicked on the lookup button and found out that there was now a local dial number here in my area for msn internet access. Now the story about it is another one that I do believe I will just save for right now and maybe tell it at a later time on probably this page.

But anyway I had connected to the internet on my computer with my isp on there and had went to the above msn support site and found my way to the link to sign up for msn 8 dial up internet access for $21.95 a month. And I get TWO months FREE of msn internet access and I am now waiting to get the msn 8 cd in the mail.

Ok now on today, Friday, April 18, 2003 I had called gowebtv at the 800 number above and got on the msn one plan. For my msn one plan help page, click here My msn one plan help page

Ok the first time I had called I talked to billing and of course I had to get my isp settings cleared off of my box. So I talked to tech support and they gave me a power off code that did it and then went back to billing and got someone else who had said that my isp settings still showed and that I needed to call my isp to cancel my account with them. DUH, Why do that when I did NOT set up my webtv to connect to the service with them but did it myself under the use your own isp settings on webtv itself. Again I say DUH. Oh well I hung up with them and connnected to msntv so that it would register in the system that my isp settings was indeed cleared out.

Then I called back and then enroll in the msn one plan. And YES I had a ticket number. Now here is the kicker. The first time I had turned on my webtv box to put in my msn user name and password I had enter it like this, msn/joetom and joetom is not my right user name, I had forgot and left off a couple of numbers at the end of it. So duh on my part, LOL,

Then I had to call back again to get that all cleared out and start over and the person gave me another power off code to reset my box and I hung up and connected to the service for that to register in the system and then called back again and reenroll in the msn one plan and the second time I had did msn/ and my right user name and my password was always right. And that did not work so I had to call back and tried to tell the guy I got that I needed to get things reset again so that I could reenroll in the msn one plan and he had ended up transferring me to tech support, but I just hung up. He had thought that I was talking about my password and did NOT know what I was needing to do. So DUH on him.

Now of course I had called back and got a girl the last time and told her what I needed and she got me back on the right track again. And then I connected after I got through this time and put in just my msn user name in the box that asks for your msn user name and my msn password of course in the password box and things went just fine and NOW I am finally on the msn one plan at last. YIPPE! :-) LOL

And the rest is history.

So out of about 5 people or so I had got TWO bad apples that did NOT help me out that much. But if I had listen to those two dummys I probably would have messed up more than I had and who knows might not had been able to get out of anything. So in closing here. I DO NOT like bad customer service, which is how I feel about the two bod ones here. So I demand alot better customer service, like I had got with the other people that I had talked to here. So all is not bad at webtv(msntv) and gowebtv, there are just a few bad apples in there, that do ruin the good ones and of course the bad ones needs to be gotten rid of at once. And maybe retrained if possibile.
