The Blazing Star

An official state monitors states ". . . the Blazing Star, in the centre is symbolical of the Great Architect of the Universe."

Albert Mackey, ". . . the star is said to be commemorative of that star which appeared to guide the wise men of the East to the place of our Saviour's birth." (Lexicon of Freemasonry, page 452)

Allen Roberts wrote, "It may be assumed that the Blazing Star symbolizes Deity . . ." (The Craft and Its Symbols, page 32)

"Blazing Star. Symbol of Divine Providence." (Pocket Masonic Dictionary, The Masonic Service Association, page 9)

"In many jurisdictions of the United States the candidate is first told that the blazing star commemorates the star which appeared to guide the Wise Men of the East 'to the place or our Savior's nativity'." (Blazing Star, The Short Talk Bulletin, vol. XLIII, no. 3, March, 1965, page 3)

"William Preston described the star as one of the ornaments of a lodge and interpreted it as a reference to God's effulgence on Mt. Sinai, which Moses found too brilliant to look upon when he ascended the mountain to receive the Tablets of the Law. Preston also regarded the blazing star as a symbol of the omnipresence of God who showers us with the blessings of life whoever and wherever we are. The star reminds us: 'God is the midst of us'." (Blazing Star, The Short Talk Bulletin, vol. XLIII, no. 3, March, 1965, page 6)

Albert Mackey, ". . . the blazing star is said to be an emblem of Divine Providence." (Lexicon of Freemasonry, page 53)

"Mackey said it simply and positively: 'The star is a symbol of God'." (Blazing Star, The Short Talk Bulletin, vol. XLIII, no. 3, March, 1965, page 7)

The inverted pentagram, as used in Eastern Star rites for instance, is an allegorical Star of Bethlehem, pointing from the heavens to Earth to signify the manifesting of Spirit in the Flesh. This, one could argue, is the very essence of Christianity.
