My grandmother had a green thumb and grew flowers all year long

My Greatgrandparents John S. Smith was born May 8, 1858 in Union county, Indiana the 4th son of William W. Smith and mother unknown. He died January 11, 1936 in Nome Alaska where he spent most of his married life and all of his widowed life minimg for gold. April 8, 1880 in Huntington county, Indiana he married Phebee Clarissa Ellen Heaston born August 10, 1863. Died March 12, 1907, the 9th child of 10 born to Henry Heaston And Catherine crull. He left her in Indiana and came home every few years to visit and left her pregnant 5 times.

Phebee was decended from the Hiestand Hof clan of Swizerland in the 1600s and Germany in the 1700s. For this information i have on the Hiestand name, i have to give much Thanks to Donald Grossman who first wrote to give me part of the information. And then to Beverly Heaston who finally confirmed it and gave me more information. And then Gary Crull. Garylou Heistand, and Barbara Moore who helped me some more. And cousin 1. Christine Johns. But there is still much more research and documentation needed on this branch of the family.

When Phebee died her eldest was 24 her youngest 6. John came home from Alaska and took the middle child kate to Alaska with him. He left my grandmother 18 to fend for herself in a time when very few females worked, and gave the other 2 to relatives to raise. He never came home again.

Henry Heaston born 1825 died February 6, 1904 1850 census for Huntington county, Indiana were listed- -- Henry Heaston --- age 25 --- occupation farmer --- birthplace Indiana ---- Catherine --- age 23 --- birthplace Indiana --- Elizabeth --- age 3 --- birthplace Indiana --- Christian [ female [ --- age 2 --- birthplace Indiana

John s. Smith born May 8, 1858 died January 11, 1936 In the 1860 Federal census for Union county, Indiana listed were William Smith --- age 40, --- Ersmus Smith --- age 12, ---Solomon Smith --- age 9, --- James Smith --- age 4, --- John Smith --- age 2. I can find no further information on this family. Of course with a name like Smith i guess i was lucky to find this.

Update There is a HEASTON County in the state of Oklahoma
