Which keywords should I use?      When choosing META content for search engines, the answer is simple, every word which you can think of that is relevant to your site. Just don't repeat the same word too many times on the same page, some search engines are programmed to ignore sites that try this trick. See: "The importance of adding pages."      The "description" tag is what will be displayed by those search-engine which use META tags, though not all still do, and some may now just use the first few words of your page instead.      Even so, try and pack in as many keywords that you can fit in your description without making it sound too ridiculous. This is because the search engine will also see the keywords in your META decription when conducting its search!      For example, assume your homepage is for bicyclists, then the following might be used: <META name="description" content="A bicycling website created by a bicyclist for cyclists. Riding techniques, bicycle maintenance and emergency bike repair. Easy to understand.">      For Webtv's Pagebuilder, these META descriptive words will go into your "Description box". Remember, you must "PREVIEW" your page to set the META keywords (and title) into your head. Positioning Your Keywords in Your Body      Make sure your strategic keywords appear in the crucial locations on your web pages. The page title is most important. Failure to put strategic keywords in the page's title is the main reason why perfectly relevant web pages may be poorly ranked.      Search engines also like pages where keywords appear "high" on the page. To accommodate them, use your strategic keywords for your page headline, if possible. Have them also appear in the first paragraphs of your web page.      Using a graphic for a title instead of text can block this very important information from the spiders since they can't read a graphic. This can be overcome to an extent by adding the title to the graphic's "ALT" tag: <img src="Your title graphic"ALT="bicycling & Riding Techniques">      Keep in mind that tables can "push" your text further down the page, making keywords less relevant because they appear lower on the page. This is because tables break apart when search engines read them.Table layout help [Back to Main Page] Webtv's Pagebuilders skip this last section:      The KEYWORD META tag is not used with Pagebuilder, but fortunately search-engines do not rely on this tag as much as they once did.
