About Me

Well, I was born at a very early age, in a log cabin that I built myself. When I was only 2, my family moved, but it only took 3 short months for me to find, and rejoin them. Oh.........no.........that wasn't me,.........that must have been some other guy.

OK, seriously speaking now, I was born at a very early age right here in good old Fort Atkinson, WI. I grew up on our family dairy farm west of town where I still live. My youngest brother, Kim, and I now operate the home farm (which we were able to purchase from our parents in 1998) and another farm just up the road that we rent. We are the fourth generation to be able to operate the farm which has been in the family since the 1890's.

My interest in trains is sort of un-explained. I believe that I was probably born with Ferroequinitis, and that condition steadily worsened as I grew older. My interest in the Milwaukee Road started in my early teen years when I would make trips to Watertown, WI where the Milwaukee's Chicago - Minneapolis double track mainline went through town. I can remember standing trackside and seeing huge orange and black diesels with long front and back "porches" roar by. It wasn't until the early 1990's that I became interested in the Milwaukee's electrified Rocky Mountain Division. It was the combination of the beautiful photos in my friend Fred Hyde's book "The Milwaukee Road", and a trip to Montana that convinced me to model the Milwaukee in Montana.

This is the part in any "personal bio " page where the publisher would proudly display a photo of his wife and children. I, however, have no wife or children, so I thought that I would post a picture of the girls that I hang out with on a daily basis. Contrary to popular belief, I am not entirely opposed to the idea of marriage. It is just hard to find a nice young lady who would also endure my "train habit". If you are a modeler too, I am sure that you know what it is like to get the strange looks when someone finds out that you are a grown man who still plays with trains.

*** END OF NEWS FLASH ***

Well.......... I finally found a photo of myself to post on this page. Here I am posing with 3 of my nephews, Aaron, David and Sam Figie of New Berlin, WI. This was taken in March, 2000 while the boys spent their spring break on the farm with Uncle Keith. As you can see, dressing up for photos is not high on our list of priorites :-)

My Pal Miss Pam

They reached the gate in silence,

He lifted down the bars.

They walked the lane together,

The sky was covered with stars.

She raised her brown eyes to him,

There's nothing between them now.

For he was just a farmer's son,

And she a Jersey cow.
