This page features some of the cars, cabooses and other MOW equipment that I use on the layout. So far, it is a very short list. Most of the rolling stock on the layout is comprised of out-of-the-box kits that I have constructed. Car-building is not one of my modeling strong points, as you shall quickly see when you scroll down the page and find little content. |
URTX 89045 Express "Cherry" Reefer |
| This is an Overland brass model owned, painted and decaled by my friend Dr. Denny Anspach of Sacramento, CA. The prototype for ths car was often seen on passenger trains transporting time sensative cargo like cherries and other perishables. I didn't have a period "Hiawatha" train to photograph this car with, so I posed it in front of my Harlowton, MT freight station. The following photos show the same car from different angles. |

Rib-Side Caboose #01847 |
| This is the one and only model that I have scratchbuilt. I used the drawings in Jeff Kehoe's fine Rib-Side Caboose book published by the Milwaukee Road Historical Association. The sides and ends are .040 styrene, the bay-windows are .020 styrene, and the roof is 1 sheet of .010 brass. The wndow frames are scale 1" x 4" strip wood and the floor and end platforms are from a cut up Athearn bay-window caboose. The ribs are .030 half-round styrene strips. Details on this side incude the tool door with hinges that I believe are made by Grandt Line. |

| Details on this side include the filler cap and venting for the oil heaters that were installed in some of these cabooses. These parts came from my scrap box. The number board above the bay window was unique to this particular caboose. The trucks for this model are modified express reefer trucks from an Athearn car. The decals for this caboose are of the mix-and-match variety. The heralds came from a Milwaukee locomotive set by Microscale and the numbers came from a Microscale set for Milwaukee boxcars. The prototype for this caboose worked in and around Missoula, MT., during the early 70's time period that I model. It now resides in Three Forks , MT., where it serves as the welcome center for the local Chamber of Commerce. |
