Enormously impactful as they may be, words can only get you so far.
Can one ever truly convey something as spellbinding as sex or quantum physics or childhood or love or loss?
At it's best, language can hint, allude, perhaps suggest them.
But ultimately our most real experiences are our most baffling.
They are inexpressible in the crude meanings of words and language.
What comes closest is Poetry.
Poetry is the supreme art form transcending the medium composing it.
The best poetry offers more than words can tell, and I daresay is really too good for words.
It is understood viscerally, not intellectually, by the heart, not by the head.

IN POETIC MEMORIUM & TRIBUTE:
Why I Am A Poet
because I don't have the money to become a doctor
the strength to become a minister
the patience to become a psychiatrist
not enough free time to be a wine-o
too crazy to be a revolutionary
not crazy enough to be a prophet
so I write poems that heal the body
as well as the weak-willed mind
stay drunk -on life- while I pen poems
that forgive the sins of our soul, scribble blue prints for transformation
and read them in subways and on
street corners like John the Baptist.
Poem by Jerome Robinson(1952-2003),
a Kindred Spirit to all, all ways, all the way.

Continued from above- ANSWERS to FAQ:
KBC is really, truly, no kidding, a 'sui generis'
A self-created innovative human theatricon of art without discernable origins...
He is a trailblazer in the flourishing poetry and spoken word movement, having founded the legendary London's Pub 'Writers & Readers Showcase' Poetry Series in Philadelphia. (http://www.phila.gov)
Also, he coordinated the North Star Bar Poetry Series.
And numerous other poetic locations, including the well-known cheap drinks for the downtrotten haunt McGlinchy's Tavern.
Moreover & to boot, he has been the real deal since the 1970's in performing & exemplyfing poetry long before the recent-ever-so-popular 'Def Poetry Jam' (www.defpoetryjam.com) format.
Ketan has given and coordinated readings, presentations, performances, etc., in venues too numerous to tally and it would take another website...but.,,hmmm, well, OK...
Concisely put, they include:
art centers, theaters, universities, schools, bookstores & book fairs, libraries, educational projects, religious institutions, corporations, the WALT WHITMAN Mausoleum...
As if the above isn't outstanding in itself,
the list has just begun:
seminars, workshops, panels, galleries, bars,
nightclubs, cabarets & concerts('groupies' gathered), restaurants, parties(private & public & savory & unsavory), prisons, sanctuaries, private ceremonies, sports events, festivals, the EDGAR ALLEN POE House...
Whew!, that's not all:
firewalks(www.stillpointawareness.com), peace rallies, fundraisers, children's & youth & senior centers, comedy clubs, coffeehouses(original bohemian java joints to conglomerate-owned cafes), the MARIANNE MOORE Room...
Additionately:
studios, parks, banks, hospitals, massage parlors, government programs(mayor's commission on learning-etc.)...
Ay-yi-yi, Furthermore:
symposiums, conventions, weddings, spiritual & religious groups, retreats & resorts, rehabilitation facilities, nudist colonies, brothels -er- gentlemen's retreats(pelted with undergarments onstage)...
Including:
cruise liners & trains & airplanes...
Not excluding:
the streets & the alleys & the subways...
Along with:
sign-up readings & open mikes & poetry slams & free-form forums - (ad infinitum to ad nauseating nauseam)...
It -gasp, gasp- doesn't stop there:
radio, television, movies...
Oh, and then there's not the least of which:
the blogosphere & cyberspace...

'BOMINSPI...Body-Mind-Spirit Dynamics' - a self-published, personally-hand-made, glossy-covered, multi-illustrated, 811 size, spiral-bound, 70-page poetry book was distributed by Swami*** Ketan in July, 1985.
It contained mystical/spiritual renditions(e.g.: 'The New Age', 'No Effort', 'The Indwelling All', 'Serendipity') with an Introduction by best-selling author Alan Cohen('The Dragon Doesn't Live Here Anymore' and other books).
The 150 copies of BOMINSPI, priced at $15, sold out(author to buyer, usually at readings) within two months and is now a collector's item among KBC readers.
He also has had his poems published in various, diverse, eclectic publications - from national magazines to chapbooks to 'zines.
Ketan was one of the original performers at the world-class Avenue Of The Arts on Broad St., featured three times in the Arts Bank (Broad & South Sts.)
He was awarded the "Performance In An Intimate Space (PIAS)" grant by the Philadelphia Community Education Center.
A distinctive one-man think tank, Ketan casts a wide, varied net in subjects & style covering an alphabet-soup spectrum of breadth & depth from ABC to XYZ in Mind, Body, and Spirit appealing to the ear, gut and heart...
Exceptions are what unfortunately masquerades as 'poetry' these days: fear, victimization, histrionics, whining, rage, blame, scarcity, diary-dribble, memoir-mush, therapeutic venting, sermonizing, expostulation, helplessness/hopelessness, verbiage, gender, race, & class diviseveness.

Referred to as a 'gadfly' 'contrarian', 'parodist', 'spoofer', 'put-on jokester/sage' for his sometime procliviy of declaring two diametrically opposing points of view at the same time(sheesh!), Ketan's poetry has no ax to grind, is unabashedly politically incorrect(PC- the most flagrant oxymoron), belongs to no school, and can't be cubbyholed.
Though many of his poems are in traditional forms and meters, he doesn't fit in with the new formalists.
Though he sometimes reveals discrete
personal details, he's miles away from being a confessional poet.
And though he often experiments, he isn't remotely postmodernist.
Manifestly, he is a singularly daring idiosyncratic, off-kilter, antipodean stylist beyond category...having no peer.
For Ketan, poetry is less a passion or a way of expression than a devotional visceral act, an illustrious representation of enhancing Life - its vibrancy, paradoxical & transitory nature, complex and random essence, and its inevitable blows - by memorializing it in a way that only poetry's calibration of language can. His poetry does not try to change the world, edify a point, or be a means to an end, rather, it is an end in itself.
Innately predisposed to the power of language & linguistics(fluent in Italian), his affinity for the right word is as exuberant as his vivid imaginings are indelible with both insight and inspiration.
His words transmit music, radiate light, beam color, fling shadow, and sway movement among the meanings often shifting quickly with adroit virtuosity and the literal unadulterated flair he has in rendering them.
Defying the commodification of art, not infrequently he is a valiant 'sesquipedalian'(user of big words for special effect) and proud of it.
Notably, Ketan was among the trendsetting poets to market, distribute, and sell professional videos:
"Resonations For The New Millennium" (1996) - shot live, in-performance, with an audience.
"Portrait Of A Poet" (1999) - a visual/verbal documentary, including many featured readings & performances.
And get this: Discovering The Internet -
Invariably the innovator, groundbreaker, and unsurprisingly ahead of the pack, KBC - who else? - established & launched this Web Site in November, 1999, long before the now interminable number of sites (more than 180 million of the things online - Oct., 2008.)

Creativity with Low-Tech...
Not with a computer, but by means of a 1999 webtv(now called msntv) setup, this Web site was independently self-reliantly styled, and in the same way still maintained by the non-techie-geek artist(KBC) himself - no small feat ;-} |
