Gebhardtdowninglinks McCoy and Gebhardt families meet..

Samuel was born in a tiny town in West Freedom, Clarion Co. Pa. on December 21,1856 to William and Jane R. McCoy. His older brother Thomas E. was born 1855 in Colinsburg, Margaret was born April 21, 1860, William G. was born Feb 1865 and Harry 1880. They lived in the West Freedom area and Samuel married Ellen Yingling around 1876. They had six children all born in the West Freedom area. Lottie born Aug. 21, 1877, married William Oran Logue, she was laid to rest January 5,1946 in Concord Cemetary. Blanche, born November 1878 , Ethel born August 1884 married Theodore Mullen. She was laid to rest in Foxburg Cemetary 1967. Margaret MaLinda born January 1882 is my grandmother. She is the daughter of Samuel and Ellen Yingling McCoy. Samuel born Dec. 21 1856 in West Freedom, to William born Dec. 30, 1828 in Huntingdon Co. Pa. died Jan. 30, 1899 and Jane, born about 1832 and died Nov. 15, 1881, McCoy.. William was the son of Thomas born 1795 and Elizabeth Edelblute born Aug. 12, 1799 in Cumberland Co. Pa. They died in Elk Twp. Clarion Co. Pa. My Grandmother Margaret, married Lines Johnson Downing November 8,1903. Margaret had five children. Albert was born October 1889 and he married Edna. He was laid to rest May, 31,1975. Last of the family was John, born April 1, 1887 and he was laid to rest 1961. My grandmother had a son Teddy who died in infancy. My mother, Evelyn Thelma was born August 18, 1908 and was laid to rest 1981. Blanche was born Febuary 3, 1910 and was laid to rest 1982, Katherine born 1914 to 1984 and Joseph, July 7, 1917 to 1987 . My mother married Carl Paul Gebhardt in 1926 and had eight daughters.

Downing's and Gehbardt's

My parents met when my grandmother Margaret McCoy Downing moved to McKeesport, Pa. in 1925. We grew up on East Fifth Avenue and moved to North Versailles Twp. Everyone married but Edna and we all had plenty of heirs to pass on our family names. There are Snyders, Korinko's Shepherd's , Neal's McNeal's. Gootz's Navorli's, and Miller's to keep our family living for many generations.
Carl Paul Gebhardt was born in Sutersville, along the scenic Youghiogheny River April 6,1906. He was the youngest of five children of Wilhelm and Fredaricka Dierstein Gebhardt. The Gebhardt family migrated in November 29, 1881 on the Braumeschmeis from Bremen, Germany and the Dierstein's came July 31, 1871 on the Batavia from Liverpool to New York. Both families having infants with them. The Dierstein family settled in Fort Wayne Indiana and the Gebhardt's settled Sutersville, Pa.

West Freedom Cemetery-Joseph Yingling stone

Patriarch of Our Yingling heritage in Western Pa. area. Joseph was one of the early settlers to West Freedom ,Pa. He raised 10 children with help of Elizabeth Baker Yingling. He laid out some of the first building lots in West Freedom. He became the Postmaster. He donated the land for the Methodist Church and many of his children are buried at the cemetery. His son Peter is my gr. gr grandfather and Ellen Mae Yingling McCoy is my gr. grandmother

In January 1842 Joseph donated ground for a log church to be built and in 1875 it was torn down and My gr. gr. grandfather Peter and his bother George Yingling donated more land and the new church was built and dedicated September 23,1877. Peter and wife Elizabeth Murray are buried in the West Freedom Cemetery.

Dierstein and Gebhardt families

Fredaricka Dierstein was born April 23, 1873 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her parents came to the U.S. from Ludweiler on July 31 , 1871, with Henri born December 1857. Philip born Feb. 20, 1859 and died Feb 11, 1937 in Florence, Colorado, Dorthea born April 9, 1863, Katherine born July 13, 1870, Christian, born October 3, 1865. Samuel was also born in Fort Wayne in October 1874.
Her Father, Johann Heinrich was born in Karlsbrunn, Germany on January 16, 1831 and he married Anna Sophia Reinhard, born October 21, 1834 on July 7, 1857. Heinrich was a miner in Germany and Anna Sophia was a midwife in Germany and also practiced helping women have their babies in Fort Wayne. The Mothers would come to her home and she had special linens that were used for the birthing. Some of these linens were passed down to her daughters. Heinrich died on February 12, 1878 in Denver Colorado, where he was taking a trip for his health. He had lung disease from working in the mines.
In 1881 the family moved to Sutersville, Pa. after Anna's death.
