Labrador Retriever Club of the Piedmont Notice: as of 5/26/09 this page has moved to http://puppies.viviti.com/puppy-tips
In the Charlotte, NC area? Please visit us at our annual Labrador Specialty shows the second weekend of each February at the Piedmont Kennel Club show site near Carowinds. There will be hundreds of Labradors competing in conformation and obedience, vendors selling dog related items, a club raffle and a Silent Auction to benefit Lab Rescue. This event is open to the public at no charge, but please keep in mind that AKC rules prohibit unentered dogs on the show grounds. Here are more tips for first time spectators:

Thank you for taking the time to research our breed before bringing home a puppy! Please be aware that listings are offered as a courtesy to our club members and do not imply endorsement by the Labrador Retriever Club of the Piedmont. Membership in a club is just part of the equation. Anyone interested in a Labrador puppy should interview breeders carefully to make sure you are comfortable with individual breeding practices and goals. We urge you to read and print out the PUPPY CHECKLIST before beginning the search process. Most of these links are to outside pages; please bookmark us or use your back button to return to the puppy page. Good luck!

Reputable breeders rarely need to advertise, but who among us hasn't perused the classifieds from time to time?

Books on raising puppies are always useful to have on hand. The best time to read them is BEFORE you bring home a puppy! (That way, when the puppy is racing around the house with your favorite shoe, you will know just where to turn for the "stop thief" chapter!) Here are a few our club members recommend:
- HOW TO RAISE A PUPPY YOU CAN LIVE WITH by Rutherford and Neil
- THE ART OF RAISING A PUPPY by the Monks of New Skete
- LABRADOR RETRIEVERS FOR DUMMIES by Joel Walton
- LABRADOR RETRIEVER, THE DOG THAT DOES IT ALL by Lisa Weiss
- SIMPLE GUIDE TO LABRADOR RETRIEVERS by Sheila Webster Boneham, PhD
- CHILD-PROOFING YOUR DOG by Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson
