The Gaggle: A Gay and Lesbian Bird Club
The Gaggle is a group of lesbians, gay men and friends who share a love of birds. We first birded together in 1995, and have maintained an informally organized bird club since. We are based in Atlanta, Georgia, and we communicate via our Gagglebirds e-mail list (see below for more info).
We gather four times a year, at the end of each season, for a potluck party and planning session for the next season's birding outings. Following the planning session, we e-mail (and mail) out a newsletter with a calendar of upcoming trips to all members.
We welcome birders of all skill levels, from beginners to professional ornithologists. The birding culture of the Gaggle is decidedly cooperative, not competitive, and we adhere to birding ethics as developed by the American Birding Association. Currently, our membership hovers around 30.
During an average 3-month season, we have five to ten trips planned to birding spots in the southeastern U.S., concentrating on the Atlanta area. Every couple of years, we get the wanderlust, and take a big trip to a birding mecca outside the southeast.
