| Denise King presents FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ @ CEDAR PARK |
|
Dear Friends/Jazz Lovers,
It's that time of year again!! If it's May that means it's time for FREE Jazz concerts, reunions with old friends and an opportunity to meet new ones. A lot of things have happened since our last concert. A lot of changes have taken place, both happy and some bittersweet, We continue to have the same great sponsors who have been with us for eight years and we welcome new ones. A while ago before Dock Street closed their brewery on 18th and Cherry, every New Years Eve for about five years I performed at their holiday party. It was then that I had the opportunity to meet the owner Rosemarie and what a great person she is. I'm elated to not only have them as one of our sponsors but what a great addition to our community. A new restaurant with great owners. I hope that you'll support their new business.
One of the bittersweet changes taking place is our treasurer and bookeeper is passing the baton. I say this with much sadness. I am sorry to see her go. So with that said, I'd like to take this time to thank Michelle Robinson who was the glue that held me and the series together. Without her outstanding record keeping and skills as my treasurer...we would have seen some tough times.
Thank you Michelle for the many years that you volunteered your time and lent your talent. (Keep Greening Girl) You've helped to keep this series going. I could NOT have done it without you.
A HUGE thanks to Linford Martin and his family. On Fridays when Linford preferred being home relaxing with his family, he was at the Firehouse helping me to keep things together outside and in. Thanks for sharing my vision and for making the Firehouse available. It has been wonderful. We've seen and dealt with alot together on that triangle. Some made us laugh...some made us... well you know.
So with lots of great memories in our hearts we leave the Firehouse and make way for some amazing changes. We have a new home AND a new name!! We are now
Denise King presents FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ @ CEDAR PARK!!! The park is directly across from the Firehouse and I must say those trees will be wonderful on those 98 degree days. I'll be workng with my friends Carol Walker and Maureen Tate at Cedar Park Neighbors to insure that this Jazz series runs another 8 years!
And now the music!! What an incredible schedule we have!! Odean Pope, Joanna Pasquale, Larry McKenna, Bootsie Barnes, Michelle Beckham, Chip Shelton, Doug Carne, Tim Warfield, Barbara Walker, Aaron Graves, Dr G's Musiqology, Barbara Mills and more. It just doesn't get any better than this. For all of you Blues lovers...we have the fabulous Mr Frank Bey.
We have many exciting things planned for 2008, of course the biggest being a move to a new home in Cedar Park. Thank you again for your many years of support. I'm committed to my community and committed to bringing you the best Jazz that you can get!!
We still limp along financially and find ourselves struggling to make it all the way to the seasons end. If you would like to make a contribution to the series, please make your check payable to:

CARRYING A TORCH...KEEPING A TRADITION
Six years ago, I had a vision. A vision that could possibly bring positive change, economic growth and great music to the community. With the help of sponsors and generous donations from audience members, my vision has become a realiity. To continue this work, I am asking for your support. Until I find corporate sponsorship, the grassroots funding operation will continue. Throughout the season, I will be hosting a number of fundraising events. There will be a Jazz Friends and Family Day in Fairmount Park, JazzJam and Poetry Slam Pt. 2, and since some people missed it, another MadHatter Ball around Halloween. It is my hope that you'll support these events and make it possible for us to celebrate another 6 years. |
