Edith Kelley was born either in Louisiana or Missouri in 1905 .I'm not sure exactly where.
She was the oldest of four girls and four boys.
All of which were very talented in their own way.
But Edith was the shining star in that family.
There was Roy her oldest broher, a gifted artist and musician. Albert (Happy) who was the leader of the Naval Band ,played the trombone and
spent 2 years in a japanese consintration camp during the second w.w. He spent the rest of his life in cheep dives either playing gigs or bartending. He died of cancer in the 70s.
Clyde and Jerry were the handsomest of all the boys in the army . They both played guitar
and sang and wrote songs. They never made a
career of music because they both desided to settle down and raise familys instead. It was
left to the girls to make their way in the "Arts"
so to speak. Edith's oldest sister Verba Mae
had the best voice. She became a nightclub
singer and sang with many great bands like
BennyGoodman, Count Basey and other Jazz
bands of the 30s but never made it big. Then there were the twins, Violet and Fern. They
were the real beauties in the family .Especially
Vi. She was an Adajio dancer for a while but she
fell in love with the saxaphone player and had a
baby(me) That sort of put an end to her career
Fern didnt have much tallent other than swimming. But EDITH .... boy there wasnt any thing she couldnt do. She had a way with herbs
and was the best cook in the world. Her home was all original decor of her own design. She was a very successfol antique broker and an eclectic
collector - which she passed on to me.(not her collection, just her taste.) She had a devout reverance for life and a passionate love of nature which is evident in her poetry.
She had a low sexy voice and could play the piano and the guitar.
She wrote most of her own music which she sang in cafe' in New Orleans and Kansas City,Mo.
She was an accomplished seamstress and milliner. Even had a little shop for awhile. But
her real forte was poetry .Under the name of
Beau Galien she was published in a national news paper from 1930 untill 1935. It is for this wonderful talent that this page is dedicated to
EDITH KELLEY. May her poetry live forever in
the annals of the internet. The following poems
are a sample of her genious. I hope you enjoy
them as much as I. They are all @ copywritten
and may not be reproduced without permision, thank you.
