In the name of God amen. I John Rudder of Halifax County knowing it was once appointed for all men to die and being of sound mind and memory ordain constitute appoint this is my last will and testament in manner and form following, Viz: Item the first it is my will and desire that all my just debts be paid out of my estate as I shall hereafter direct. Item the second I give unto my son Edward M. Rudder one horse bridle and saddle, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, and one hundred acres of land which property he has received in his possession. Item the third I give unto my son Charles Rudder one horse bridle and saddle, one feather bed and furniture one cow and calf and ninty nine and a half acres of land which properly he has received in his possession. Item the fourth I give unto my daughter Nancy Corey one horse bridle and saddle, one feather bed and furniture one cow and calf which property she has received in her possession. Item fifth I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Sublet one horse bridle and saddle, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf which property she has received in her possession which I give to her and her heirs forever which daughter is now deceased. Item the sixth I give unto my daughter Polly Minnix one horse bridle and saddle one feather bed and furniture once cow and calf which Property she has received in her possession. Item the seventh I give unto my daughter Susannah Barton one horse bridle and saddle one feather bed furniture , one cow which property she has received. Item the eighth I give unto my daughter Meaky Barley one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf and forty dollars in cash in lieu of the horse bridle and saddle which property she has received in her possession. Item marked ninth my will and desire is that the tract whereon I now live at my death to be sold to the highest bidder on twelve months credit and the money (...) from the sale be equally divided between my daughters that is living, one if either of my daughters that is now living should die before that period of time arrive that I should die, that that part of my estate that she or they would have received shall be equally divided between their children share and share alike. Item the tenth my will and desire is that at my death that all my Negros together with all my stock of horses, cattle, sheep. hogs, household kitchen furniture, crops of corn, wheat, oats, tobacco shall be sold to the highest bidder at twelve months credit, and the debts owing to me if any after paying my debts to be equally divided between all my children that is then living and should any of them be dead before that time arrives their part be equally divided between their children, so as to do all equal justice, sons and daughters and their children. Item the eleventh my will and desire is that the children of my daughter Elizabeth Sublet shall received their equal part which would be the part their mother would have received if she had been living of the proceed of the land whereon I now live which item is marked (9) also that they shall received their mother's part of all the property sold after all debts are paid which is my negros stock which is under Item (10). Item twelvth my will is that from the love and affection I have to my two sons Edward M. Rudder and Charles Rudder I do nominate and appoint my executors as witness my hand and seal this the thirty first day of March one thousand eight hundred and thirty four.
