PRR K4s LOCOMOTIVES WITH COAST TO COAST TENDERS

In the mid 1930's, the Pennsylvania Railroad selected 10 K4s Class Passenger Engines from the roster and attached "Coast to Coast" Tenders to them. This would help avoid the need to stop for water and coal on the long distance runs between terminals. Represented below are all ten of those K4's.

PRR K4s 3 CHIME LOCOMOTIVE WHISTLE

This Whistle is from a Pennsylvania RailRoad Steam Locomotive. It was once attached to a Class K4s 4-6-2 Pacific type loco-- #5343 and a Class M1 4-8-2 Mountain type loco--#6998. Do you want to hear it blow? Just click on the picture. Please be patient, it takes about 1 minute and 45 seconds for the audio to load. It IS worth the wait for this 1 minute long recording. To get this Whistle to Blow it was attached to a steam boiler outlet pipe and a special adaptor and blown on 150 lbs. of presure. Sounds Great!!! Thanks to Mark P. and Matt D. for making this sound possible.

Be sure to check my other web site out at the following address. It also has photos of Locomotives, Models and Railroadiana of the Late Great Pennsylvania Railroad.

Special Note!!! A Special Thanks goes out to Clint Chamberlin for the scanning job he did with MY photos. If some of the photos look familiar they are also located on his site at: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/ It is an excellent source for more PRR Photos as well.
