The Science of
Pure Water Solutions for Health

The best filtration methods are tested using Standardised Testing Protocol--.
The Industry Standard issues a UL/ NSF listing to products which is reccommended by the E.P.A. for reliability *

NSF Has 2 listings, one less stringent, the second is more stringent:

The first, & most common listing is purely for Taste & Odor /Chlorine concerns,

The more stringent listing is for:
Reduction of contaminants of Health Concerns (Standard 53)-- Here
each contaminant will be listed separately on the product ie.:
-- Lead, Metals -- Bacteria & cysts of bacteria
-- Chemicals , Chlorine (of concern to many), etc.
Chemcals are the biggest culprit in our U.S. water-- over 2,110 were found in studies of water across the USA (states are required to address 80 of these). Products thet pass NSF testing will have the contaminants they reduce listed with the NSF seal on their materials.


Recommendations:

If you are seeking a product to reduce contaminants in your water, the reliable products are NSF tested-- the listing will be right on the company brochure and on the product itself.

The best products are tested and listed as
NSF Standard 53-- Health Concerns--- (again it wil be on the product) as well as exactly WHAT Health Contaminants are reduced.

WHY UL/ NSF Testing?-- Simple: We start there because it is reccommended by the E.P.A.-- and No matter what the manufacturer says about the product, if it doesn't have an NSF listing, its' probably because it cant pass the testing.

Granular Filters are made of carbon "pellets" or grains) & do a Poor job on chemicals: one of the USAs biggest concern in water...
Granular Carbon filters are known to harbor &/or
Grow Bacteria inside them, and they Cannot pass the rigid NSF Tests for Health Concerns

Other less expensive Filters are
Built on a granular Carbon base, with add-ons:
but the base on which they start is ineffective: The Add- ons really cannot change that...

"R.O."-- "Reverse Osmosis" --- usually come with a Granular Carbon filter tha is supposed to deal with the chemical contaminants--- but most of these R.O.'s will not pass NSFs Health Standard tests, because the chemical contaminants will not be reliably reduced.
R.O has a # of other problems, including:
Water Waste
Costly Maintenance,
More moving Parts & more breakage, especially on "bargain" filters

AGAIN: THE REAL TEST of a Filter's Effectiveness is the NSF listing on the package & product-- ie., Standard 53-- Health Concerns If it doesn't have that, it probably Can't Meet the Standards!

Re: Distilled & De- mineralized Water Drinkers:
I prefer products which leave the minerals in my water. For those considering using products which remove minerals from water-- Here's some food for thought:
If you are taking a mineral/ vitamin suppement, does it really make sense to remove minerals which are Natural in your water?
I always recommend dealing with TOP HEALTH CONCERNS FIRST-- which in the US is mainly your chemical contaminants--
Then add on to that If you have other concerns.
I do have available one of the best "R.O."' units (One of 2 that are U.L./NSF Tested for Health Concerns), and also have more interesting information to share on this topic (ie., for those of you who Don't take mineral supplements)....
