SMASH

What you are looking at is the rear end of a nice little Rambler I had back in the mid 70s.

Certainly worse things have happened to people, but this was an unusual situation I thought I'd share since I ran across these photos.

I was standing in front of it, one rainy fall night, with the hood up, looking in at the engine, when a drunk guy ran into the back of it.

The car had stalled after I had stopped at a stoplight, and wouldn't start again. Supposing maybe something had gotten wet, I had gotten out with a rag and put the hood up, hoping to wipe off some connections and solve the problem.

I had a friend with me, who had also gotten out of the car and was standing on the side of the road. When he saw that the oncoming car wasn't going to stop, he yelled "LJ, look out!".

I don't know how to describe it, but it was as if for a moment I had x-ray vision and could see the two headlights coming through the raised hood.

The next moment, the car ran square into the back of the Rambler. I can remember frantically pushing off of the front of the Rambler as it lurched forward, and I managed to get out from in front of it on the passenger side.

I hit the ground and the right front tire hit against my leg. (A lady said she saw the tire go over my leg, but even though it was very badly bruised over a large area, I don't recall that).

Though I didn't want to go, I was taken in an ambulance to the hospital, where they stiched up what I considered to be a couple of minor cuts on my left hand, which needless to say, made playing the guitar a bit of a challenge for a while.

The newspaper report said that I was "forced under the vehicle", which was exactly what I thankfully and perhaps miraculously succeeded in avoiding.

(Gee, wasn't THAT interesting, hyuck hyuck).
