Space Environment Center Comets & Meteor Showers Status Texas Skywatchers' Report University of Texas Best UFO Pictures of 2007 & 2008 |
As I sit here behind the window and gaze up into the dark & mysterious West Texas night sky, hoping for that elusive shoot of a lifetime. I can't help but think how long its been since we've captured something unusual, or post a picture. So tonight I thought I'd zoom in on the Moon and post its' picture. If for no other reason but to let you good folks know we're still out here keeping an eye on things.
Keep looking up, the wonders of a lifetime are out there.
Today we spotted this bluish-green object in the haze north of town. It's my guess, it is a weather balloon, but I can't be sure of that? It was moving north at some speed and at times there was a small pulse of red light in the blue-green hue.
Here, you see a red pulse. I have never seen a weather balloon display lighting like this before, but that's not to say this isn't a weather balloon. It's just that I found the object weird, and felt I should make note of it here. Below, the object disappears behind some trees north of town.
When I first noticed the object it was about the size of an aspirin, when held at arm's length. The sighting lasted nearly 10 minutes.
The National UFO Reporting Center received an unusual amount of blue & green UFO reports in May.
Starting with Texas, on the 2sd, 3rd, 9th, 15th, 21st, & 24th, Georgia, on the 4th, Arizona, on the 6th, & 9th, Pennsylvania, on the 7th, 9th & 20th, California, on the 13th, 15th, and two on 28th, 28th, Washington state, on the 20th, Hawaii & Nevada, on the 21, Washington D.C., on the 22sd, North Carolina, on the 25th & 31st, New Jersey, on the 30th and Michigan, on the 31st.
This by no means represents the total, for blue/green UFO sightings reported in the U.S., during the month of May. They're only the reports I gleaned from NUFORC database.
Many UFO sightings are only reported to authorities, or not at all. (Most people shy away from UFO groups.)
For instance, on May 21, California Emergency Services OES received multiple calls from residents living in San Francisco, and surrounding counties, reporting a bright green light flying around in the sky. OES has yet (as of this date) resolved the mystery; other than to acknowledge that it was an "unidentified light."
And then, there's the Ohio sightings, which according to a May 26, NewsChannel5 report. Police officers on patrol in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, responding to a flood of calls from nervous residents reporting bright green lights in the sky, managed to capture a large green & red UFO on film. In fact, NewsChannel5 is reporting that Ohio law enforcement have been left stunned by all the UFO sightings lately!
The point I'm trying to make here, is that these sightings (even though they reached national attention) were never reported to the National UFO Reporting Center. Instead, the eyewitnesses chose to report them to authorities.
There were, however, other UFO groups that started receiving blue & green ufo reports in May. Such was the case with www.ufocasebook.com/ whom had received a number of reports that month. One was from a person living in Rockford, Illinois, who had the foresight to capture the object on film. May 15th, pictures & report
UFOs Northwest, also had their fair share of blue & green ufo reports in May. Here's one I find particularly interesting. It comes from a Centerville, Georgia, man and his son, who had the good fortune to capture the object on film. The father reported to investigators that he and his son, had had a similar encounter with a bluish-green object on May 8th,
(same day as the Bovina sighting.) Note the similarities
Today we spotted this weather balloon conveniently drifting right over town with little notice. I can't help but find the timing of this, to be somewhat suspicious? After doing a check of weather balloon releases for that day. I couldn't find who'd released this particular balloon? What I did find, however, was that a gigantic experimental balloon had been launched from Ft. Sumner, New Mexico.

Sunday night we spotted this "fireball" low in th sky north of town. The light was traveling west, when it suddenly reversed direction and returned the way it came! It then, a few moments later, abruply reversed direction once again, and returned to its' original heading. The object was very bright and made no sound, whatsoever. It zig-zagged and was lost behind some trees northwest of town.

This is not a picture of one of the contestants, however. It's of an experimental balloon which turned up in our skies on Sunday.
It was sent aloft from Ft. Sumner, NM.
What this reporter heard over the scanner was that this huge object (20 stories tall) had reached a height of 112,000 plus feet before ground crews terminated its mission. The balloon's mission was to test a high atmosphere telescope, and to then drop the telescope safely back to earth by way of a parachute. There were multiple aircraft involved in the recovery of the telescope & balloon. We tracked it all day Sunday, from Bovina.

Well folks, here's another odd aircraft I spotted flying north of town. It was hard to film, but basically what I saw through the binoculars, was an off triangle-shaped craft, with the nose being much longer(spear-like) and was sporting a brighter light, then that of the two on the backside. The impression I got, was that it was very large and dark. It flew by slowly without making a sound. I would say its altitude was around a thousand feet. My scanner made a buzzing noise, which can be heard on the video.
There was a low cloud cover so no stars can be seen in the video. Here, you see the light on the nose, dimmed, as it slowly passed by moving off to the west.

As it first came into view. Notice how bright the light is on the nose, in relation to the rear lights.

On this first day of January 2003, the skies above Bovina, were being revisited by the flying tumbleweeds.
It was really quite remarkable, how these tumbleweeds took to the air, and traveled great distances. See below...
Here you can see tumbleweeds gathering behind a flat storage barn, just before they took to the air.
As the tumbleweeds became airborne!

A little after 8:00 pm tonight, we spotted a weather balloon just north of Bovina. Some have asked us what this might be, so I post it here. Look below for a close-up.
If you look closely you'll see a long tether line, minus an instrument package. I must admit, the Sun illuminated the balloon beautifully.
Keep looking up folks, the wonders of a lifetime are out there.
Today, we spotted this "fireball" (for the lack of a better discription) swiftly moving north across the sky. My first impression was that this must be the Sun reflecting off an airliner. However, the only problem with that, was that the object stayed bright much too long, and was joined in the sky by another fireball like object. See below...
If you look closely, you'll see another object at about 12 o'clock. Both objects were moving in the same direction.

This strange aircraft was videotaped just north of Bovina. The eyewitnesses claim they didn't hear any noise coming from it. However, the train can be heard in the background of the video. This aircraft was flying low and displaying bright steady red lights. I'm unaware of any aircraft that uses this arrangement of lights? If you can help identify this aircraft, please contact us.

This strange aircraft was reported on Monday night, just north of highway 60. The video clearly shows the object to be flying very low and moving slowly west. It was last seen going west towards New Mexico. No sound can be heard on the video or was reported by the eyewitnesses themselves. If you can identify this aircraft, we would like to hear from you. I leave out the time this video was taken as to help confirm that you did indeed see the same object.
