Things To Do Around Here

John's Mountain is located in Gordon County. It is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. People enjoy camping and hunting and hiking and fishing in the mountain retreat. At the Pocket you can hike to see a waterfall.

Baseball and softball consumes the community in the spring and summer.

Lazy, hot, humid days of summer are a welcome relief from the monotony of winters dull, erratic flip-flop from warm to cold and warm again. Many people love boating and have Carters Dam in Chatsworth to boat and fish and camp at. Chatsworth is in Murray County next to Gordon County.

The Carpet Industry

Dalton and the surrounding communities in Whitfield and Gordon and Murray county have a strong investment in the carpet industry. The carpet mills sprang up from its beginnings from the chenille industry. Ladies used to sit and tuft chenille bath robes and bedspreads and sell them from their front porch homes along Highway 41. As travelers ventured along the Dixie Highway from their homes either traveling south or north the fame of Dalton's chenille robes and spreads increased and finally developed into a thriving industry for the north Georgia community. The historic Crown Cotton Mill in Dalton has a museum honoring the rise of the carpet industry.

Many people were drawn to north Georgia during the period after the depression seeking jobs. Today is no different. People from all parts of the country and the world come to our thriving community seeking work.

I Bet You Didn't Know . . .
