(Bruce Reeve's donation), the full boy scout uniform with hat was the uniform he wore as assistant scout master when he was "OUTED" by a scout's father and asked to leave the scouts in 1985. and Rick McMahon;s cub scout outfit... (on temporary loan for this exhibit at GCAM) also Rick McMahon has on display a small treasure chest of items made in the scouts.

Sports.... the Gay Olympics (poster) 82 which was similar to the ones confiscated by the olympic authorities the morning they went on sale (this one survived confisication) and is on temporary loan for this exhibit from Patrick Vachon... also displayed is a copy of the Montrose Voice (June 1986 issue) 5 to 4 ruling by the US Supreme Court,gays not allowed to use the word "olympics" ....the sporting event is now called the Gay Games. (the Montrose Voice copy dontation from rainbo)
"Series Eight Houston" softball.....poster (the sport posters at this exhibit are on temporary loan from Patrick Vachon)... GCAM also has video clips of various glbt historical events.

GCAM statement of purpose is "to collect, preserve and provide access to historical items from the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in the gulf coast area of Texas in the United States. It shall also be to encourage education and research and to sponsor meetings for the communication and display of collected materials." |
