1st practice is August 11

Don't forget to show up at Bobby Hicks pool with all of your paperwork completed and a check for $11 for your insurance premium.

Team News

A meeting was held on 5/23/03 in which athletic paperwork was distributed to all return swimmers and any new interested swimmers. Swimmers were given directions in filling out the paperwork correctly and were reminded that all must be COMPLETE before they are allowed to attend practice. They must have an ADA-1 form with all signatures and both enclosed medical release cards signed AND notarized as well as $11 for insurance. The meet schedule was handed out and can be found below. It should not change, but you will be notified if any changes are made. The district meeting will be held in September and a meet host and pool will be selected at that meeting but I am anticipating that Plant will again host at Bobby Hicks on either 10/17 or 10/18.

Also at the meeting it was announced that the girls team will be structured a little differently next year. Because our season has been severely shortened by the FHSAA it will be necessary to clearly identify those who will "dress" for the swim meets for the season. This will make it possible for these swimmers to swim in enough meets to satisfy the requirements for earning a varsity letter. With our large numbers and only eight dual meets it will no longer be possible for everyone to get a chance to swim in a meet.

Everyone will still make the team and remain a part of a varsity team as long as they attend practice regularly and continue to make an effort to be promoted. If attendence becomes irregular or no effort is apparent, the swimmer will be asked to leave the team.

It is my hope to have the "traveling" team selected by the 2nd full week of practice and then to use the results of the Gold & Black meet on August 28th to finalize the status of swimmers who are on the bubble.

Some preliminary time standards were announced at the meeting but will probably have to be adjusted up or down until the number of dress list swimmers is adequate. The current cutoff times are:

50 fly - : :34
50 free - :32.5
50 back - :37
50 breast - :42

NOTE: You only have to make the cut in one, not all four strokes.

THANKS AGAIN -

In hosting the district meet last November our parent volunteers once again showed why they are the absolute best. I received many compliments from coaches, parents and administrators. Thanks again for all you do. I want to especially thank Ann Marie Critcher for all her efforts throughout the year and for coordinating the awards banquet. Thanks also to John DeBevoise for providing the excellent facility.

I'm looking forward to another great season!

Coach Gonzalez
