The 25th annual Great Tack Exchange will be held at the Warren County Fairgrounds, Lebanon, Ohio on Sunday March 14, 2010 from 11 am to 4 pm. This popular event is sponsored by the Warren County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council (OHC). New and used tack, horse supplies, riding attire and feed will be offered by a variety of individuals and dealers from the tri-state area. Nearly 90 vendors are expected. In addition, a raffle will be held by The Warren County Mounted Search Team. Food will be available and a bake sale is planned. Admission is $1 per person. No dogs will be permitted.
"We have a variety of organizations and individuals represented each year. There are non-profits such as the Warren County Mounted Search Team, Bridge Riding For the Disabled, Canter Ohio Horse Rescue, as well as horse breed organizations, individuals, 4-H clubs, dealers, various stables, trainers & vets.
The first event was just called The Tack Sale held November 10, 1985 with 20 vendors. Then March 9, 1986 it became "The Great Tack Exchange" or "GTE" and is held on the second Sunday of March of each year.
The Great Tack Exchange grew larger each year with more & more vendors & shoppers, soon outgrowing the building we were in. In 1992 we moved to a larger building on the Fairgrounds. In 2005 we had 70 vendors inside and a dozen outside with more than 2000 in attendance that day. Each year we get more and more vendors and shoppers. We now have an annex building to hold our overflo. Our outside vendors have the convenience of a covered building with concrete floor to park under.
This is an event you should not miss. Mark it on your calendar.
We have three vendors that have been with us each and every year since the beginning in 1985: Bob Wells from Somersville, OH; Terry Griesinger from Alexandria, KY; and Judy Picklesimer from Lebanon, OH.
The Great Tack Exchange is a great place to shop for new & used horsey items. It enables people to buy horse-related items at affordable prices while helping our organization fund its service activities. Many people look forward to this annual event, as it is a place to socialize with folks they haven't seen all winter and to meet new friends with the same interest. It seems that the GTE makes many people feel Spring is in the air. The Warren County Chapter of OHC provides service to Warren County in a variety of ways. Proceeds from the Great Tack Exchange are used to help maintain the 30 miles of bridle trails at Caesar Creek State Park as well as supporting a Ride-a-Thon for the Bridge Riding for the Disabled each September and sponsoring classes at the Warren County Fair's 4-H Horse Show.

More about the Ohio Horseman's Council
. . . . . . . Horsemen Helping Horsemen
The Ohio Horseman's Council (OHC) is a non-profit organization started in 1972. It is a grass-roots movement of horse people who felt the need for an organization that does not have a breed affilliation or serve private interest. It promotes the interest of the entire horse industry in Ohio and developes a close working relationship among individuals and organizations who recognize the importance of the horse industry to the social and economic well being of Ohio. Over 50 Ohio counties have chapters.
By 1974, OHC was officially incorporated and joined the American Horse Council. There, OHC learned how horsemen in other states solved zoning and bureaucratic problems. To date, there are more public riding areas in Ohio than in all the adjoining states combined.
The Warren County Chapter's membership is represented by all horsemen regardless of breed affiliation or style of riding. The group meets eight months of the year on the second Thursday. Our monthly meetings offer the opportunity for local folks with a common interest to share ideas and suggestions along with socially interacting. We also hold trail rides and pot luck dinners, promote and provide building and maintenance of bridle trails.
