It analyzes -your- browser...telling you everything that is on -your- browser. Here's a site that has an analyzer. Just click on the box at the upper left hand corner and scroll down to read all about your browser. http://privacy.net/ When you log onto this site, it will give you -your- IP address and pertinent personal info at the top of the page. Then, when you click on the box, it will diagnose all the info contained in your browser. Have fun :-) Andi Click on the (recent and browser info) and it tells you all about your LBB. http://members.tripod.com/~jawjahboy/states.html CODES By now, some folks are confused as to whether they have the 2.5... the 2.5.5 or the 2.6 upgrade/updates. Go to spellcheck and put &vers; on your word list. I did, and got: 2.6 Internal-nondebug Define nondebug??? Client 2.5.5 External-Nondebug (version 7351) With your unit off press options 3 times followed by numbers 4 11 All the lights will flash on your unit power on (you will be on your box tech specs page) Each and every upgrade has a build or version number. Its easier to identify a upgrade by build number A Debug version is one that has yet to be debugged; it can be an alpha or beta version that's still in testing.. A Nondebug version is one that is [we all hope!] debugged and OK to release for use. Hope this helps, Saverio (Los Angeles, CA) HARD TO REACH SITES AFTER UPGRADE The webmaster is checking the browser name rather than the version and redirecting based upon that. If you email the webmaster and let them know WebTv has been upgraded, and that they should use a browser version sniffer rather than an appName sniffer, they will gain all the WebTv community as a result of it as visitors! I send Speedtrap a email and explain that our browser is Mozilla/4.0 WebTV/2.6 (compatible; MSIE 4.0). Their addy is: SpeedTrap@speedtrap.com Plus need to report to webtv as well. SETUPS Taping Websites Does anyone know if it's possible to run a webtv through a VCR for the purpose of taping websites? Yup, just run the wires from the back of your webtv into the 'input' on your vcr, and the vcr out to the tv in the normal way. When you record, just like taping a tv show, whatever you see onscreen is what you'll be taping! HTH, Zoob :) It IS possible! You can tape dialing in, a surfing session, writing HTML or ANYTHING! Thank you this is amazing! ~Ronnie~ To record from the web---just connect the audio/video cables (RCA type cables) from the output of the webtv unit to to the audio/video inputs of the VCR. After you connect anything into a VCR always try out some buttons on the VCR REMOTE. Buttons like: "tv/vcr" and "input" and "line" and "line in" etc or whatever it has got. COMBINATION TV/VCR SETUP [Can I hook up my web tv unit to a tv vcr combination set? .] Yes you can. However, you will not be able to program the combo VCR through the LLB. You have to program it as usual. I have my LLB into a regular VCR, then into my combo. I can record what I see on the web and also use the 2 VCR's to duplicate tapes. ~Del |

TRAVEL WITH WEBTV Here's some tricks also from a webtver, James...good ones to remember: ---- {QUOTE} I have recently joined the successful ranks of those who have travelled with their WebTVs. Before I went on my trip, I found this site very useful --(Saverio's site) http://community-2.webtv.net/IOM/doc5/ - However, I discovered 5 more tricks that you might want to try out when you are on the road, too. ---- (1) When you are not using your WebTV, leave the phone line unplugged. In case you forget to turn off the automatic features ( I did! , it will prevent the unit from dialing out for TV listings or mail retrieval. ---- (2) When you are at a hotel, you may want to retrieve the local TV listings. I found TV Search very useful when I was trying to find my favorite syndicated programs. I also discovered some local shows that were not broadcast in my area. The WebTV listings are far better than depending on a hotel info channel (if any), or a small TV section in the newspaper, or even a TV Guide. ------ (3) Even if you are not using it, leave your settings on TV Home. That way, it will prevent the unit from dialing out until you are ready. If you are not connected to TV cable, you may want to mute the TV sound or leave the audio disconnected until you are ready. ------ (4) When you first see the "Have You Moved?", be sure to reply YES, whether you are using your own ISP or WebTV ISP. For your own ISP, a "Yes" response will take you to your settings, including your dial-in numbers. By the way, set up your dial-in numbers just as if you were making a local call. For instance, my hotel phone needed a 9 and 1 and even an area code. And local calls were 75 cents each, even for unconnected dial-outs. ------- (5) If you are going to a hotel, bring your own TV. I have discovered recently that very few hotels have easy access to their cable systems. Unless you are lucky enough to get a helpful hotel technician, you will be left out in the cold. Don't depend on the front desk for any technical information either. ------ For a while, I would bring my 13 inch TV. ( This was also useful since I brought my VCR, too. ) All I needed was a box to carry the set. ------ Now, I have another option: I-Glasses. These are basically miniature TV screens and ear plugs mounted on special googles. They can be easily packed with your luggage. ( You can find info and pricing on I-Glasses at www.technoscout.com . ) My I-Glasses will be especially useful whenever I plan to travel by air, and need to limit my luggage. I hope you find all this useful.... J A M E S {UNQUOTE} SWITCH BOXES ON VACATION "You mentioned msntv does "box switches" for vacations. Please could you give us more information on that? Interesting, as I never knew that. Does it involve any add'l charges?" No, no additional charges. If you're going to a vacation or summer/winter home where you have *another* WebTV box, you can call 1-800-gowebtv and have them make a switch for the period you'll be there. It de-activates your other box, just as if you were buying a new box and switching the account over to it. Then, when you go back to your [first] home, you do the same thing and switch back to that box. It's an alternative to just taking your WebTV with you. Personally, I think it's easier to just have one box and carry it with you, but some people prefer to have another box, already set up, in each location, and just do the box switch. I've travelled with mine so many times I can do the hookups blindfolded, but for others it's a major headache to disconnect and reconnect, I guess! Saverio (Los Angeles, CA) |
