STUCK CURSOR

working with scrapbook:

This might not work but worth a shot, try pressing your tab key when in that page. I have been able to move about using that when I couldn't with my arrow key on webpages.

THE POWER PLUG

It is advisable to plug the WebTv unit DIRECTLY into a GROUNDED power outlet.

What I did: I bought a powerful surge protector that protects ALL electronic equipment (TV, VCR, WEBTV and Stereo) from any possible damage (on a bad weather, lightning, storms..etc) or electric interference.

Lightening and surge protection info from State Farm and APC:

http://www.statefarm.com/consumer/surge.htm and

http://www.apcc.com/support/service/equipment_protection_policy.cfm

Check with power company for whole house protection.

Check with electronics stores for point of source protection for phone and other electronics.

RESET

Whenever you have problems with any electronic equipment, try unplugging the power plug for a while and replugging.

Sometimes all it needs is to reset itself.

Also reverseing the plug and replugging may work.

CONNECTIONS

Never make _any_ connections without unplugging from wall, even static electricity can damage your unit!

SETTINGS

It is a must to check all settings, even privacy, after every update and upgrade.

Actually its a good idea to check your settings every Wednesday after early morning maintenance is done.
They sometimes change then as well.

LAP DESKS

Wal-mart has a lap desk for around $5.00-Under $10.00.. You will find them in the stationary department. The lap deck has a plastic top and a bean bag bottom.

You can try www.lapdesk.com (how original huh?) to see if they have anything to your liking.

They have about eight or so different styles. I have the "crossword" model with a flip-top cover and some storage underneath. Love it!
Happy Lapping,

WEBTV MAINTENANCE

Wednesday morning is the WebTv maintenance period.

PST = 1am to 4am
MST = 2am to 5am
CST = 3am to 6am
EST = 4am to 7am

Depending on the time zone trying to log-on during the above times will very likely result on seeing "WebTv Unavailable" every week.

WHAT UNIT DO I HAVE?

First of all, if you have a short memory, I would recommend that you print out or write down these instructions ... now:

• Turn your WebTV off.

• Press Option twice and enter "411". The green, yellow, and red lights will cycle a couple of times to let you know the command was accepted.

• Turn the WebTV back on.

• You will see the WebTV Technical Information screen, sometimes called the System Configuration screen.

• Look at Box Type. You will see one of the following codes which tells you what type of unit you have:

Old Classic: FCS
New Classic: BPS
Old Plus: LC2
"New" Old Plus: Derby
New Plus:LC 2.5

There were apparently two versions of the old (original) WebTV Plus unit. Don't know what the differences were between the two versions.

STACKING & COOLING TIP

There are things called "furniture bumpers" in hardware stores---Radio Shack--K-Mart--etc. (about $2 for a pack of 8) They are a rubber stick-on about 1 inch square and about 3/4 inch high. Just stick them on the bottom of the LBB or anything else and they provide lots of ventilation between anything that you stack. I use them as "feet" between anything I stack. Also wont slide around and will not let any thing get scratched.

LINKING BACK

When transloading a graphic which asked for a link back, I put part of the site name in the graphic's name. For instance, all the graphics I transloaded from Draac have "123" in their name. rbj

SCRAPBOOK GIFS

I put some gifs in a scrapbook of another user, put them on an image page there, published it, and sent that page to this user (templar4). All I had to do was look at the images page, select the gif I wanted, put the url on my page and it worked perfectly. Makes no difference where the gif came from so long as it has an url. mike
