TIP

I get best results by resting the scanner on a padded surface.

On the "photo" screen, do you get a television picture when you click the TV/VIDEO button to TV? If so, using a VCR connected to Webtv via the RF cables (ones with the screw-on connectors), and plugging your scanner into the VCR's video "IN" , you will be able to scan your pictures.
.
Place the tape in the VCR and get it ready to play. You will need the remote that came with the VCR.
-
On the WebTV, select Mail.
-
On the left sidebar, select Write.
-
On the left sidebar, select Photo.
-
You should see something that looks like a TV screen. Below it there is a TV/Video switch. When you click on it, it should switch back and forth between TV and Video. Select Video by clicking on the switch.
-
Place the cursor on Freeze.
-
Using the VCR remote, play the tape until you see the picture that you want then click Freeze on the WebTV. If you miss the picture you want, click Freeze again, and rewind and replay the tape using the VCR remote. Repeat this until you get the picture that you want.
-
When you get a picture that you like, select Add to Message.
-
Address the e-mail, add a subject and text if you wish, and select Send.
-
If you would like to put the picture in your scrapbook, address the e-mail to yourself and select Send.
-
When you receive the e-mail, you can put the photo in your Scrapbook by selecting Scrapbook on the left sidebar. You will then be able to view it full screen by going to your Scrapbook and selecting the image.

Hello, I just read your posting from nearly a month ago. I've only just returned webtv, or should I say msntv? My old unit kicked the bucket got my new one hooked up today.

Anyway, about your question. The e-scanner is made for webtvs and I understand it will also work with AOLTV, too.

Other uses, you can hook it to a vcr and scan pictures onto videotape. Hook it directly to your tv. This is great when you have company and you want to share some photos. Everybody can see the same picture at once and you don't have to worry about the pictures getting soiled or out of order.

The e-scanner won't work with a computer unless you have a video-capture card installed.
Hope this helps,
Jerry

PHOTOCAPS USING WEBTV PLUS

An 'e-buddy', of mine, has created a site, where he is offering to scan pics, for WebTV users … for _free_.
He's only requesting postage, if you'd like the pic returned. Since he's gone over to 'puter land … and, no longer has access to the newsgroups (which he misses _very_ much) … he's asked me to help pass the word along, for him.
I thought this was a very kind and generous offer … so … for those of you, who have no way (or, affordable way) to get a pic online … here's the URL …

DIFFERENT SIZE PICTURES

Does anyone know why you get a much larger picture on your PB page if you scan to email first and then put it in SB?

If you scan straight to the scrapbook or to the page itself, the pic is much smaller. Also if you go through your email, the pic only takes up 0.1% of your SB, compared to 0.4%, if you scan straight to SB.

I found this out because I was going to redo the pics straight to the page and clear out my SB. But I decided I like the larger pictures better. Carol
.
Carol --- can't answer the "why" but, yes, the three methods of scanning a photo do result in different sizes ---

In order for other viewers to "see" the issue you raise, I made a web page that displays the different results --- the three photos on the page are from a scan of the same photograph which happens to be an odd size of 3 5/8" x 6 1/2" --- in fact I only scanned the photo once --- since the scan remains available in memory until replaced by another ( or the scanner goes into sleep mode due to inactivity ) I was able to use the same one three times --- the page Url is:
http://community.webtv.net/mikan71/sizecheck

I think my notes on the page explain the results of the three methods but as to the "why" --- perhaps someone else will come along and help us understand --- I am a bit surprised that you have email photos taking up only 0.1% of your scrapbook --- most of mine run full percentages averaging 2 or 3% --- I have   had them as high as 6% and never below a full 1% --- Enjoy your scanning ---

Hi Carol..
Here is some info on your subject matter. If you take a pic from the camera in "write" and "photo" and send to yourself it will be a "mailedD?.jpg" and will be 544x415 and in the "scrapbookFiles" subdirectory.

If you take a pic from the camera in the "scrapbook" sidebar "capture" it will be a "postedD?.jpg" and wil be 240x184 and in the "scrapbookFiles" subdirectory.

If you go to your page and "add an item"...Picture...and click Video Capture the pic will go to your page without using Scrapbook and will be "captureD?.jpg" and will be 304x232 and in the "media" subdirectory.

When I scan, I don't get the usual gif or jpg designation. I get "posted." I can get it to my page; but can't link. This also happens when I capture from my TV.

Pat --- not a real problem --- just one of our Webtv idiosyncracies to not show the jpg or gif extension with video captures of any kind --- your photos are in fact jpg images and you just add .jpg ( don't forget the dot ) to what you see in the window --- The Url for the photo on page 2 is:
http://community-1.webtv.net/PatWmson/PatsPages/scrapbookFiles/postedD0.jpg and all the Url's for your photo album would be constructed in a similar manner --- the easiest way to get them when you have a number of them to identify is to take your PAGE address and go here: http://www.transload.net/ts.shtml
enter the PAGE url in the "source url" box and click "extract" --- on the next screen you will see each of your photos and their Url's ( above each photo ) --- copy and record somewhere for future reference ---

Hi Pat:     JO_ACT Posted an answer to a query similar to your"S ON Dec. 23.   I doubt if it is still on .   Here is the answer given. No , I didn't put it into the Scrap Book.. First Scan the pic., I went to Page Builder, picked a back ground, then went to add , then to picture. Instead of choosing Scrapbook, I chose Video Capture. I had already Scanned the picture that I wanted ,so it was ready.then added it Then I Published it.You can repeat this procedure 3 or 4 times if you like. After Publishing it will be added to your Web Page with a URL. Then you can copy and paste the URL into your Message page. this way you can bypass the scrap book.

Does anyone know why there would be streaks on most all the photos that I print?
These are photos which I've scanned to Photopoint .. some manipulated
there and some not even cropped.
Is it my printer? OR is it the scanning process which breaks up the pixels?
I've tried brand new ink cartridges as well as expensive special paper for printing photos ... yet nothing helps. Do I need a new printer? Or what ? Any ideas?
.
trying scanning a original picture, that might be the whole problem,,you are probably losing the quality of the picture there,,as I have tried the same scanning a printed copy hope this has helped
.
Have you tried cleaning the printer heads? Follow the instructions in your printers' manual for cleaning.
.
What kind of printer do you have.??
You may find help on my printer page, It has a program link to clean your printer if it's a HP670, click on index below. Also try the printers newsgroup.
.
How did the photo look when you first scanned it? I had some problems once that effected the clearness of the scanned photo. I cleaned the glass on the Scanner and they cleared up..Of course I didn't print them off.,so my printer wasn't involved... Good luck...   Amos

got scanner today pluged everything in tight and right i scanned 10 pictures work fine but not real clear on small stuff then unplugged it and unplugged video input to for about an hour than hooked it back up pictures started having an image of lines on each side of picture got worses the more i scanned
tried unplugging it and plugging back in it got a little better can anyone help me on this image and fuzzy picture thing i hate to send it back on day one
.
If you suspect the e-scanner, plug it directly into your tv. If you suspect Webtv plus, play a tape in your vcr.
.
clear the cache, i dont know why but this works for me...

I had an s video cable for camcorder inputs connected to the plus unit, however with the scanner the s cable needs to be removed otherwise the scanner won't work and I assume for a camcorder input via the S video cable input I will have to disconnect the scanner input has anyone else experienced the same problem
one pleasant surprise the scanner output will plug into a camcorder or digital camera and one can record on either digital tape or flash memor old photos

Has anyone else had the problem with putting a photo and a sound bite into an E-Mail?

If you scan a photo and then try to record music, the photo is missing from the E-mail when it pops back up.

However, if you record the music first and then scan the photo, everything works just fine.

Can someone else test this and let me know. Thanks.
.
yes i noticed that also. and even when you record the sound first, then the picture, if you delay sending out the e-mail it still loses the pic. i find if i record the sound, then the picture, then try to type the e-mail, i lose the picture.

best bet is to type the e-mail first, record the sound second, then record the picture third. then immediately send the e-mail out without delay. this usually prevents losing the picture.
