Here is a very good page on the MSN Messenger:

DELETEING A BUDDY
I think you can delete a buddy without using your address book. Go to IM and click on Settings
Click "Change how available you are"
Click "Allow only people on your list to contact you
Click Continue
Click "See who can send you messages"
You will get a list of your Buddies
Click in the Block Square those Buddies you want to block. I think those people will be blocked even if they are in your address book.
I just posted this to users so I hope it works or I will have two ngs mad at me.

UNBLOCKING A BUDDY
I found out something today that webtv's instructions do not tell you. In case this happens to anyone else (and you are not aware of this), here is how to unblock a buddy if you accidentally or purposely put a block on them.
I accidentally blocked one of my buddies. I tried to add them back, but no go.....
I have my settings set to only allow my buddy list to contact me. After a very long phone call to 1-800, I discovered that if you go into 'settings' and click on "allow everyone to IM me", in THERE is the blocked buddy!
All you need to do is click on "allow" and he is right back on your buddy list! I then went back to reset it to "only my buddy's can IM me" and he was right back on the list when I pressed "show who can contact you".
This info is _no where_ in their instructions.......hope this helps
someone else!
They are still working on my address book.....I cannot add buddies from it, but at least 1 out of 2 problems are solved! :-) Ruth
SOME BASICS
IM is working fine. At least for me.
The good part is that you have the ability to opt for using it or not. Don't want it? You simply go and turn it off. Then forget it exists. Some basic rules to follow for a smooth use are:
You have to have a NAME (nick) on your WebTv Account. I.E.:
Miranda
whatever@webtv.net
Where Miranda becomes your IM name.
So your buddies have to have a name, beside their address. You don't want to be bugged by unknown IM users? You have the option to reject them without them knowing it.
You will show on their screen as NOT connected. Is someone showing NOT connected in your IM screen? It might mean that they turned the IM off in order to work on their homepage undisturbed. And so on.
The rest, you will find about little by little. IM is a good tool to talk in private (besides the e-mail) at an urgency need, without having to leave a site and go to the e-mail.
While i`m on the messenger......can i type or "ccp" an "url" or any "httpwww" for the other person...so she can click on the page?.Don`t know how this can be done?
or do i have to email the page?..Thanks. Belo*
Haven't tried it "that way" yet, but I do know that an email I was writing, I copied it and went to IM and "pasted" it onto the messenger and it worked.
Have to check that out next time I'm on the IM.....but...wondering if you just hold down our CMD key and hit the A and C keys, if it would copy all for you, then paste it onto an email to yourself????
ON OR OFF?
If you have your instant messenger turned on, you might try turning it off. When I did this my box seemed to run faster and pages load quicker.
If you don't use IM and don't want to see the icon on your home page, you can go to the 'extra users' in settings on your primary account and block IM for your secondary users.
I read this in another post and tried it. My session now appears to run faster. Also like the fact that I don't have to tab as far to get to the favorites icon.
UNAVAILABLE
I kept having problems with IM being unavailable on my main user name. Then I found out if I switched to other user name that IM was available there. So I just added buddy list there.
Another thing that I do besides that when it's "unavailable". When you see that message, use your option bar and logon to "messenger" and many times, it will become available, even though it said "unavailable at this time".
?????
Maybe this will help???? all these months I've had the IM turned off. Today I turned it ON & gosh the difference in posts loading is amazing. Why should that affect anything ?
Don't know but in my case ,it seems to matter. Tried shutting it off as an experiment , came to ng & nothing would load...shaking head.....it's beyond me.
ADDRESSES
When trying to go to a specific addy in your addresses (after placing the cursor over the word "To:", just press the first letter of the name of the person you are looking for and you will be "transported" to the first listing which begins with that letter.
For example, I have wuapr listed as "Mods" in my address book. After I place the cursor over Cc:, and hit Return, I just press the letter M. After that, just two taps of the Down Arrow takes me to MODS, and I click on the address to add it to the CC field.
ORGANIZING
I went to my address book and put
number 1 before wuapr@corp.webtv.net.
That caused it to move to the top of the book saving me the time of having scroll down to it. Great tip!
Putting a * (star) before a name in your addy book will bring it to the top of the list. 2 ( ** ) will bring it to the top of the one starred ones. 3 ( *** ) will bring a name before the 2 starred ones. Have not tried 4 stars yet.....
I have several names with one star before them, and they are automatically listed in alphabetical order. Each group with whatever # of stars will be in alphabetical order also.
If you put a ~ before a name it will take it to the bottom of the list. If you have more than one name with the ~ before it, they will be in alphabetical order at the end of the list. I do not know if more than one ~ will change the order....
I have also used this in my favs folders but some ppl have posted that it does not work for them.
Put your spam reporting addy group on top by numbering it also. I also group family, friends and other types of addys - eg: all the kids have the same number and I have one listing with all of them on it. I like it better than grouping using letters.
MOVING ADDRESSES
When closing out another user name addy not to long ago I used following method to print address list.
From "Mail to" page ... use "To" ... and click on each and every address you want to save.
Then, when through with that routine, ccp all to blank email page, being sure to insert a comma at end of each and every address, then send email with all addys listed to whatever established addy you care to use.
All addys _should_ then appear as clickable links that you can "add" to new address book.
It's been a while so hoping against hope that I haven't missed a step or two somewhere down the line.
CHANGING AND DELETEING
This does seem to be the solution to most address problems when trying to change or delete an addy. Most often, the addy your are trying to change will contain "alternate" characters, i.e., something besides "plain" numbers and/or letters.
An entry to your address book which contains alternate characters cannot usually be changed _or_ deleted, until you have done the following......
Choose "Change" and erase the name part of the addy (not the actual email address.) Then, type in something which contains only plain letters, and choose Done.
After this is accomplished, you can then delete the entire entry, or make changes to any part of it that you wish.
CCP
When you have a problem highlighting areas using the "find" and "shift" method, try using Cmd+A to highlight the entire page. Then Cmd+C to copy and Cmd+V to paste on your Write page.
Of course, you will have to delete whatever information you do not want. There are certain sites that allow you to CCP so far and no further. Try the Cmd+A method and see if that works for you.
CMD-X
OK, Cmd-x. Cmd-x copies material you have written or have pasted and it also Deletes it from its original location. The material deleted goes into the Copy buffer for storage and use later.
Barbie used to say, Think of the "x" as a pair of open scissors... it cuts the material out.
Why use it? What are good uses for Cmd-x? Well, say I wrote a long letter and decided I wanted to move a paragraph somewhere else in the letter.
I can use Cmd-x to "cut it out" and delete it from where it orginally was. So I don't have to use Cmd-c and then Delete by hand.
Then I use Cmd-v to paste the paragraph where I want it to be. This will work with moving sentences, words, or whole sets of paragraphs, if necessary.
CCP URLS
You can copy and paste a URL.... while on the website, you use your "go to" feature and put the cursor on "show Current" which will fill in the GO TO box.
Then you would hold down your CMD key and hit the A and C keys. That puts the URL into your memory.
Now you can paste it where you want, on an email or website by holding down the CMD key and LIGHTLY TAP the V key.
CMD-A, CMD-X
There are some sites which simply do not allow or support c/c/p. I believe it's due to an embedded code. This usually only affects the "selective" c/c/p, but you can _still_ use CMD + A to c/c/p the entire page, then cut out what you don't want.
DELETE
If you want to delete a large area of text- place your cursor at the beginning of the first line you want to delete, press "shift" and the arrow keys (or "shift" + "scroll down" if the paragraph(s) are long) to highlight the area you want to delete.
Then press "delete" and the text will be erased.
It is a much faster way to delete large areas of text then using "cmd" +"delete" for each line of text.
CCP FOR COMPUTERS
Many of you probably wish that you could teach a computer user how to c/c/p. If so, I have written an article on how to do this. The article is located at:
href="http://community-2.webtv.net/Texxon/Help2/page18.html">http://community-2.webtv.net/Texxon/Help2/page18.html
Feel free to press your Send key, and forward this posting to your
computer friends who need to learn the c/c/p procedure, or you can simply c/c/p the above information and send it to them! As
Always,
Tex

Just a short note... if your friends don't know how to C&P on their computers, they also might not have HTML-capable email. Using Send creates an HTML link; instead, as Tex suggested, use C&P to send them the entire text.
Also, sending them the URL if they don't know how to C&P would mean they couldn't get into their browser's window...
These precautions apply especially to AOLers... ! ; )
