The Church of Christ is not a denomination, but strives to be the church of the first century, before there were any denominations, and Christ's followers were known simply as "Christians". We believe that unity of all denominations is possible, through the teachings of the New Testament. We believe that the beginning of the church was in the first century A.D. It was made up of the first Christians, the very same people the apostle Paul referenced when he stated in one of his epistles that "All the churches of Christ salute you!" (Romans 16:16).
In the latter part of the 18th century, men of different Christian denominations, studying independently of each other, in various parts of the world, began to ask:
-- Why not go back beyond denominationalism to the simplicity and purity of the 1st century church?
We do not see this as arrogance, but the very opposite. We are saying that we do not have the right to ask for men's allegiance to a human organization—but only the right to call upon men to follow God's blueprint.
The Church of Christ pleads for unity of all believers in Christ, and believes that unity can be attained. (John 17:20-21; Ephesians 4:3-6) Come worship and fellowship with us soon. We look forward to seeing you!
