Many bombers had pictures painted on the
nose reflecting something special about the crew,
the commander, or a humorous idea. The crew of
the Sassy Lassy chose the name but did not have
time to finish painting it or a picture on the plane
before it went down. The word Sassy and the
letter L was all that had been painted on.
I chose this as a possible nose art knowing
they all would have appreciated a pretty girl but the pilot would not have allowed anything risque to be
put on the plane. (The young woman, Lissa Petty, is a resident of the Kansas City area and
graciously allowed me to use her picture.)
The squadron and bomb group designation would not have been painted on the plane but this graphic was used for a t-shirt as was the first photo on the previous page.
