MUST READ: AVOIDING FRIED VIDEO CIRCUITS
http://community-2.webtv.net/jgulow/WebTVPlusandStatic/

IS IT FRIED? A TEST:

Regarding instruction's on testing for fried video jacks in another thread. Here are easier to understand instructions.
Many thanks to Noah Vale.
----------------------------------------------
You can test the video input circuit of a Plus by first turning off and _unplugging_ the power to the Plus, and then connecting an RCA cable between the Video Out jack and the Video In jack of the Plus.

After reconnecting the power to the Plus, go to your Write page and click on Photo.

If the video input circuit is good, you will get a screen that will show multiple, diminishing sized images of that page.

If you get a "No Video Signal" message, your video input circuit is fried.

Heres a Vid Cap of what a good video circuit test should look like:

Notice how the picture looks like a picture within a picture, on and on?

WORK AROUND WHEN IT'S FRIED:
Use a VCR or RFU (RF modulator) for hook-up to Plus unit coax IN.

HERE'S A TUTORIAL (from NoahVale):

" Merely having a Plus turned off before connecting a camera or anything else to the video in jack will do little, if any good.

WebTVs are never "off" unless unplugged, and are in standby mode when turned "off".

Any electronic device that has a remote is never off unless unplugged, otherwise, the remote could not turn it on.

I have had some friends fry their Plus' video input circuits by only turning off their Plus models before connecting a camera.

If you _do_ find the IC chip to replace the fried one, remember that that the normal static electricity charge in the human body will fry the new IC chip if you touch any of the leads.

The tiny static charge or "difference in potential" is what destroyed the original chip in the first place.

Here is the work-around for those that have fried video input circuits:

Use a VCR's RCA video input to connect the scanner or camera.

Run a coax cable from the VCR, to the coax-cable input on the Plus.

Instead of a VCR, you could also use an RFU adapter, (RF modulator).

When you use this work-around, you will have to make one change, from what you had previously done, when using the photo screen on your Write page.

While on Write an e-mail, click on Photo.

Now, click on TV/Video button in the bottom left corner of the photo screen, to move the selector to the TV position.
(It is set to the Video side when you first see it).

When you used the video inputs on the WebTV Plus, you would have used the Video side of the TV/Video button.

Now that you are using the TV portion of the Plus to see your camera output, you need to choose the TV position. "

Opening pics in e-mail:
.
These should help:
.
http://hyperbrowse.com/
http://www.hyperfiles.com/
.
pics@hyperbrowse.com is the E-MAIL address you would forward the pics to.
.
They can seperate most, but not all pictures, and I don't think they get back to you if they can't.
~~~~AND, another way:~~~~
Using Paul Ding's method.
1. FORWARD the email to bounce@paulding.net (you don't have to type in anything, just FORWARD it)
2. In a couple of minutes you will receive back an email with One single URL.
3. Click on that URL, and you will see that the bounce has broken "the headers" down piece by piece (page by page) FOR EXAMPLE:
Page 1
Page 2
Page 3
Page 4
~~~~~~
Page 10
Page 11
Page 12
Page 13
4. Find the header for the attachment (it is usually on the third page from the bottom) In this case it would be on Page 11 or Page 12 in our example.
5. Once you have found the header for the attachment, click on the URL at the top on that page entitled: "Decode 64 Binary"
6. You will then be taken to a page that has the URL for the attachment.
7. Click on that URL, then bring up OPTIONS panel and click on SHOW CURRENT.
8. COPY (CMD+A, CMD+C) that URL and transload it to your files.
Wah-la -- You now have a URL for that attachment sent you.
