CAN YOU USE A DIFFERENT BRAND OF REMOTE ON YOUR WEBTV UNIT?

....says that the Philips Plus remote is compatible with all P/M WebTV Plus terminals. It is not compatible with Philips Classic terminals.
The Sony Classic & Plus remotes are compatible with all Sony WebTV Classic and Plus terminals.
They are not compatible with Non-Sony brand WebTV terminals.
The Samsung remote is a Universal remote, and is compatible with all brands of WebTV Plus terminals. Also, Sony Classic INT-W150, Microsoft Dish 7100, 7200 and EchoStar 500. It is not compatible with the P/M MAT960 or Sony INT-W100 Classic terminal.

Assuming you aren't getting interference from sunlight through a window or some type of light inside [neon, for example], try the "Last Rites for Remotes and Keyboards":
1. Remove batteries.
2. Press ALL keys and buttons at least once, more can't hurt.
3. Reinstall batteries and try it again.
This has revived more keyboards and remotes than I can count.

Also the FN key + a No from 1 thru 7 are the short cut keys.
Press the Tv button to operate the TV and the WebTv button to operate the WebTv
You can enter your TV set code by manually turning your TV on and then holding down the TV button enter the code for your TV."

#1. On your remote, press and hold your on/off key and your TV key (to the right of on/off) together until the red light on your remote comes on.

#2. Press PLAY on your remote and watch the red light on your remote blink. When it stops, if it hasn't turned your TV off, press it again and watch the red light blink. If it hasn't turned your TV off, press Play again. Keep doing this until your TV shuts off.

#3. Press REVERSE on your remote and wait 2 seconds. Do this until your TV turns back on.

#4. Press Stop on your remote until the red light turns off.

#5. Press the MSNTV button on your remote. After that, you should be good to go. Your remote will change your channels, control your volume, and switch back and forth between your webby and your tv.

Not all 'wired' keyboards are the same, some functions seem to be missing, example: the CMD key (most often used doing routine CC&P).
