EPSON C62 DEFAULT SETTING IS TO PRINT COLOR WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT.
How to install or replace your ink cartridge(s)... http://support.epson.com/er/actions/000107.html (Leave the empty cartridge installed in the printer until you have obtained a replacement. Otherwise the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out.)
Complaint of printer using too much ink can be caused by improper printer shut down which will cause long cleaning cycles on power up. http://support.epson.com/webadvice/wa0007.html
Wait 10 minutes after last printing to power off printer at printer and verify cartridge/carriage movement to park and cap position. Printer will cycle routine maintenance nozzle cleaning and print out solid black ink rectangular block (1/4" x 1 & 7/16-1/2"). Use printer at least once a week for best results.
