I certainly hope you enjoyed my little Site here, and that it took you on a fun trip back in time. Click the dmarie link and punch in your birthdate and presto, it's that easy! It even has a printer-friendly text...
I was a 1960s post baby boomer growing up loving TV's The Electric Company and ZOOM, The Jeffersons and Family Ties and The Facts of Life. The Little House on the Prairie, Family, The Waltons, The Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew Mysteries, and Starsky and Hutch. Saturday morning Krofft Super Shows such as HR Puf-n-Stuff, Land of the Lost, Curiosity Shop, etc. Christmas classics such as Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town. 1970s movies like "The Planet of the Apes" and Disney. I enjoyed some classic scary movies like "Carrie" and "The Shining". Jodie Foster during 1970s (only). TV & movies were so great back then, I don't mind the kitshy-ness! I loved Beverly Cleary & Judy Blume books, and some suspense novels. I even read "Tiger Beat" where Leif was the top pin-up prince & "Seventeen" magazines (both didn't promote smoking). I listened to Fleetwood Mac, Olivia Newton-John, John Denver, Neil Diamond, ABBA, Rod Stewart, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, and Madonna; just basic Top 40's pop during the '70s / '80s, as well as Christmas music such as Mitch Miller band. I loved to scrapbook. I loved to color. I loved dolls and paper dolls. Yes, I did have pop culture dolls of all sorts: Mrs. Beasley from Family Affair, Cher, Six Million Dollar Man / Bionic Woman, Donny & Marie, Charlie's Angels (I had the small Jacklyn Smith and the big Cheryl Ladd), as well as all kinds of Barbie dolls (PJ, 1960s / 70s Barbie (Malibu) & Ken (rubber hair & fake hair Mod), Dawn & Long Locks, Honey Hill Bunch, Jodi (Victorian), Jane West, etc. I loved classic table board games like Monopoly, Trouble, Sorry!, Old Maid cards; Ping-Pong, volleyball, badminton, & sled-riding. I collected 'View Master' reels and have the likes of Pippi Longstocking, Return to Witch Mountain, Nanny & the Professor, the Brady Bunch, the Partridge Family, Disney, the new Mickey Mouse Club, etc. etc. Over the years, I've saved almost everything, even my manual typewriter. They don't make the stuff anymore; nowadays, I think of today's stuff as junk! (I had to watch out that my mother didn't attempt to touch or throw away anything; she didn't understand nostalgia!)...
I was an animal-loving virginal girl who never smoked, drank, or took drugs. I valued education highly, even graduated college earning a 3.5 GPA with Honors. In New Jersey, I had a wonderful childhood best friend- Margie and teacher- Miss Nespoli. Although I had a difficult childhood (partly due to my moderate hearing-impairment since birth- rubella/German measles, and living with a single mother (who ironically rejected my hearing loss) with 3 daughters to support (my father died of a heart attack in January 1975)), I considered myself all-American, because I enjoyed decent stuff without pleasing others. Also, my hearing-impairment was never an obstacle despite extreme prejudice. Although I've lived in Phoenix since 13 (Mom's idea, against my wishes!), I cherished my childhood days in New Jersey and am enjoying my own [very] independent single life with my loving animals in Phoenix...
Nowadays, in our fast-paced technological civilization, it is SO appreciative to feel so nostalgic!

My reminder for you...
Please save stuff from the day your child was born or even when you adopted your pet i.e. your local newspaper, a popular toy that came out, controversial headline in a publication, videotape of the day's news, if you adopted your pet via an ad- save that (or if online- print that out), etc. etc. and place them in acid-free storage. And, of course, do the Tme Capsule! Be careful what you may overlook. Have fun!

From Sheila: That was fun and interesting, Karen! Thank you for sharing. My step-dad was born on Sept 6 too, which I noticed is your birth date. I especially enjoyed looking at the pics you had on there of yourself and your pets.
