THE SHIH TZU FORUM newsletter messages from Public Archive that I've sent to members who signed up in our Mailing List, courtesy of the now-defunct listbot.com. Enjoy!

Date: Aug 04 2001 08:32:20 EDT From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #27: Correction / Misc...
I just want to be able to add a "part 2" to last letter #26 while you're all still here in this listbot List, before August 6's discontinuation date (as few of you still haven't confirmed to my subscription e-mail for server.com, in order to see #27 or #28 over at server.com if could've placed it there instead)...I'll make try to make this letter worth filling your e-mail inbox over:
First, I hit a typo in Beau's birthday- it's Sept. 1 not 2.
Next, I'd been tinkering around my new TalkCity Chat/Clubs to see how it's functioning and whether it's as easy to play with as they stated it'd be. I just wanted to be sure which parts you're able to use and which only the Administrator (me) can be able to do. Can you do me a favor and sort of post things in it, such as calendar of events of your own or photo gallery or announcements. Since I set this up for invitation-only access for members, I'm not too sure where the benefits you members have exactly. Only the public/unmoderated can gain entry anywhere. I'd like to be able to get things done & rolling before I start getting busy next month and while I have the time right now. And, if you have your own TalkCity experience, let me know. I just posted in the Announcements and Calendar, and I think the calendar events will show within 14 days of the event posted, so when I posted Beau's birthday for Sept. 1, nothing shows yet until 14 days prior to Sept. 1. It does show in the Announcement. Go ahead and see if you can respond to the Announcement after my post. Also, if you have your own stuff to put in and can't get in some, let me know and I'll put in for you. You may also forward my e-mail invitations (by TalkCity) to your folks and invite them to our Clubs!
Thank you for replying to my server.com Mailing List e-mail confirmation. I really appreciate it and am glad it's gotten through to you, including a couple of you whose e-mails got bounced & removed from the List by listbot (I don't think server.com would do that).
Now, back to the birthday issue, I'd like to let you know that Harkins Theatres offer a free birthday pass to go see a movie. Just show your photo ID, and they will probably fill out a small form by copying down your name & driver's license number, & your birthdate. I'm not too sure about this, but I think you might want to go on your birthdate and not any day during your birthday month, but each theatre varies. That's how Beau & I went one time and may do again together (I also took advantage of that offer many times and saw many movies in several branches all over Phoenix during September)! I mentioned the story in the "NEWS FORUM / Archive" Link and will put more in if we did go to a movie again together (or, if we went someplace to celebrate both our birthdays- mine's on the 6th and I'll turn 37). Why not share your birthday news/photos for our site?
What do you think of the Tzu stuff for sale in eBay.com? I bought a few (my fave being that Tzu doll), because what they had was not available in the Phoenix area that I would've bought locally instead. Really neat stuff. Lately, I've been into dollhouse miniatures and have been spending this summer putting together & decorating shadowboxes of my pets. Shadowbox is like a very mini dollhouse. I'd put in Tzu & cats miniatures in there and decorate with themes that represent who they are. I'm having 2 minis (1" scale) custom-made of Cleo & Rudy due to their unique color markings. I really don't enjoy mail- or online-ordering due to the wait and cost of shipping/handling. The local scrapbooking & dollhouse stores are good but, of course, there are limits in stock. Michael's is very flexible & broad but not a specialty store. So much for being a serious hobbyist. I've spent lots of fun money on my pets and stuff that represent them and have had no regrets! I'm proud to say that I'm almost done before the summer ends. I'll scan and place online. I also started photo tinting black & white pictures and put one up of Beau all tinted up. Why not share your eBay or hobby experience of your Tzus for our Shih Tzu Forum site? Tell me your About Me eBay pages. Mine is http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/funcollector (my User ID is 'funcollector' because it's fun collecting stuff on my pets). I don't have it linked to my Shih Tzu Forum sie because it's a commercial page, and I hesitate to link my 'business' Site to my personal Site, due to restrictions to commercial linkings to free home pages. Many of you don't have your own Tzu sites, so I'll be glad to help you share your stuff online! I've gotten savvy with HTML (& JavaScript) as you can see how my Site has truly grown since its debut on June '99, and I so enjoy helping others to share their passions online. What's great about the web is being able to build something without expensive machinery to publish a newsletter or magazine or book. No art skills or hiring an artist needed either.
I hope to have a booth, this time with Beau, this October at the Arizona State Fair. It's still not my very own booth that I'd pay for, as it will be to help out the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I failed to explain last year who they were and their functions. They're a referral agency who refer contacts to individuals/groups (my Hearing Ear Dog Law Information Center is on their file) looking for info. or assistance on topics relating to the hearing-impaired. So, at their booth, they'll be passing handouts and showing videos. I'll just help out with Beau sitting next to me (or maybe on my lap!), just so people will know his job for me (like what Hearing Dogs do exactly). There is also a Deaf Expo 2001 in Pomona, California (November), but they wanted at least $275 for a simple booth; they didn't have non-profit rates, so I let it go. I can go there with Beau just to hang out with my new California friend, Shari, whom I mentioned about Rocky, her Hearing Dog. I could tell she must really want me to visit California and hang around. Why not take up on her offer; there aren't many decent, honest people like that in existence, who TRULY want you around! However, California was my last vacation ('99) with Beau, so I'd like to take him to a different state for a change- maybe New Jersey where I'm from and visit my childhood places! I tend to take very short vacations or rarely take vacations due to missing Cleo my tuxedo cat (then) and now missing Rudy my Persian cat! Even for one night...
Well, I'm done here. Letter #28 to you will be via server.com. They do not deliver right away like listbot, so I'll be sure to write in advance. I'd like to lastly thank you all for your support and participation in other stuff that I added in my Site such as Guest Book, poll, Bulletin, etc. I do read them all as much as I can. I am fortunate not to have any letdowns or mishaps online that can cause me to miss some of you. WebTV has been great to me.

#27: today's date: Saturday, August 4, 2001 @ 5:30 AM (last update #26: Thursday, August 2, 2001)

Date: Aug 03 2001 02:25:44 EDT From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #26: New Chat / other Updates
Wonderful news! I am so glad I let go of my original TalkCity Tzu Chat Room for it to close automatically, because I checked out TalkCity/Clubs and found that not only was it free but that it had better & more offers, compared to my original Room that offered only chat for a new fee that I rejected. I love the calendar feature, as well as several folders for Discussion, Photo Gallery, etc. for all who were invited by me to register or join my new Tzu Chat Room. Since this Room/Club is not in a public directory and that it's known by my invitation only, I will be sending you subscribers an invitation. I did a test by inviting myself, along with few online friends that I felt secure enough to invite as a test in a way. I liked how it went through and wanted to see what the Subject line said so that when I invite you subscribers, you will know that the Subject reading: "Talk City Clubs: You have been invited to join!" is from me and not a spam from a stranger. If you joined, thanks, and I look forward to seeing you there! You may get a second invitation notice if it doesn't get your reply to the link to join. TTY there!
Now, about my new server.com Mailing List! I just got done setting it up all nicely. I'm so glad the Tools is easy to navigate and understand. I'd like my Mailing List to look nice & neat for you all. I can even use HTML while listbot.com didn't offer it, but I don't think I will use it because AOL users' e-mail system doesn't read HTML, right? But, text loads faster anyway, so that's ok. I wrote a dummy e-mail to myself as a new subscriber who signed in to be a member to see what the Sender e-mail read, as well as to view how the letter looks. The body text looked almost similar to listbot.com's setup. And, the Sender reads: "www@www.server.com", so that you will know it's from me and not a spam from a stranger also.
I just received a complimentary copy of 'Spin' magazine, and page 62 featuring my Leif & Beau picture looks beautiful and Leif's interview's funny (though not for the very young to read). Here's their site: http://www.spin.com. The issue should hit the newsstands around the middle of August. I don't know whether the picture/interview will be online yet. That would be nice! Otherwise, I'd paste some in my Leif Galleries page. Look out for it, or let me know if you'd like a copy sent via SASE (I know, I love showing Beau off)...
This is my last letter to you via listbot.com, as again, they're discontinuing the free service on August 6. My next letter #27 will come to you via server.com, and the Sender should read: "KarenCatalioto...".
Thanks for your continued patience & understanding. Hope your summer went by well; I'm SO glad it's breezed by quickly (speaking of living in the desert and cooping Beau & Rudy my new Persian cat indoors with me)! Nothing's happened with the air conditioner- whew! Beau is enjoying Rudy's new company so I am so appreciative all went well. On September 2, Beau turns 9! (And, Rudy turns 2 on October 22). TTFN...

#26: today's date: Thursday, August 2, 2001 @ 11:15 PM (last update #25: Friday, July 20, 2001)

Date: Jul 20 2001 03:31:26 EDT From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #25: Changes / TalkCity & Listbot
Termination...
• TalkCity on July 31. Reason is they changed private chat rooms, such as mine, into a premium service plan- for $3.50/mo. or $42/yr.
• Listbot on August 6. Reason is they moved their services over to business owners- for $149/yr...
Yes, they are continuing their services but NOT for free anymore(!) I guess many services like them are wanting money or more money. Look what happened to InsideTheWeb.com, my former free Message Board service, who went belly-up and died, causing me to move on to server.com to provide further free board service. However, listbot.com earlier used to have a technical problem bouncing my messages back, causing me to lose a subscriber (WebTVer), as she did not know about it.
Since my Shih Tzu Forum Home Page is a non-profit online newsletter site, I'd like my outside services to remain free of charge so that I do not pass the cost onto others, in order to help contribute to keep my hobby newsletter business going. Since my private chat room has barely been used since its debut on December, 1999, I decided not to continue hosting it. However, TalkCity would offer a general club chat rooms available for anyone in the public to enter without owner-registration; that's what TalkCity have been renowned for. However, I will check my private chat room every night after 7 PM MST to see if anyone might want to get in to chat for the last time. If you prefer to set an appt. with me, e-mail me a reply to this e-mail to let me know! To find my room, just visit the Forum site and scroll down a bit to see a button to enter the room. Also, if you have a hotmail.com e-mail service, you can use that to chat with me with my WebTV IM (Instant Messenger) for free! So, it's not a total loss. As for Listbot (whom I've been with also since Dec.'99), I am not continuing with them either and have signed up with server.com to handle my mailing list; since signing up with them for my Message (Bulletin) Boards, I have not had any problems with them, and their ads are very minimal thus signifying that they're currently secured in their business. What I will do is transfer your e-mail addresses from listbot.com over to server.com and sign up for you. You should get a confirmation e-mail (like Listbot) asking you to reply to it if you're interested. Please do, as I would like to continue sending you my newsletter diary and the Forum site updates. I would hate to see service interruptions as due cause of my losing loyal subscribers. It should not take up much of your time. This is probably the last Listbot letter I am sending to you; therefore, the next one will be sent to you via server.com. Thanks for your continued support and understanding!
Now on to recent news:
Just last month, Beau met his first Internet pal! His name is "Rocky", a 3-year-old Rat terrier, who is also a Hearing Dog like Beau is. He and his owner, Shari Golyer, visited Arizona with her husband and driver friend. Shari visited my home first to show me Hearing Dog stuff for a couple hours then we went to their motel to meet Rocky and her husband and friend. Boy, was Rocky excited to see Beau; they had to keep a leash on him as not to lung towards Beau to greet him! Beau, who sensed his ways, did NOT want anything to do with him; probably a Tzu thing! We had pizza and soda. Shari invited me to Anaheim, California (where they're from) to go to Disneyland someday. Why not! For more on this, go to our Site and click the Hearing Dog link and go to page 2 (next page on bottom). Enjoy!
Look for Beau's picture with Leif from last year to appear in a national music magazine called 'Spin'. Their assistant photo editor spotted the pictures of Beau and Leif and e-mailed me requesting to pay big for them. Why not! That was one of the best times Beau and I had. She told me that they were running an interview with Leif and that the pictures would be perfect to go with it. I do not know yet what month the picture(s) will be in but I will let you know once I hear from them; they are sending me a complimentary copy of that issue. I am so excited I cannot wait to show off...
If nothing else from more from here, expect my next letter to you all via server.com! Or, chat with you all at either TalkCity or Hotmail/WebTV IM...
Thanks SO MUCH for all of your support, patience, and understanding amid this Internet business!

Date: Apr 12 2001 00:30:45 EDT From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #24: Happy Easter / booth information
Happy Easter! I can't wait to dye eggs and take pictures of Beau and his new kitty brother Rudy next to the decorations. The weather in Phoenix has been nice for awhile, so I'm taking Beau to places before it starts to get too warm for him...
I'll be having a booth this Saturday, April 14, at Margaret Hance Park in Phoenix, to celebrate Deaf Awareness Month. I'll have Beau sitting next to me to represent Hearing Ear Dogs for the hearing-impaired. I will have everything videotaped / photographed, so if any looks good, I'll be sure to put them up in our Website. Hope all works out well there. I also hope the weather stays cool; it's supposed to start warming up next week. It only got cool recently because of the rain, which helps people who don't have their air conditioners on yet (I do). Here's the event URL for more information: http://www.public.asu.edu/~jsp82676. Besides booths, they'll be having a picnic. The event is supported by Arizona State University (ASU), which is why there will be other events/booths on campus (I'm only participating once, at the Park). So, if you're going to be in Phoenix for Easter and be out & about, stop by our booth if you can. See you there!

Date: Mar 05 2001 06:46:24 EST From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #23: Welcome to Spring! / Updates
Wow, there have been a few adjustments I had to make. Here's what:
• InsideTheWeb.com is going asunder on March 5 (seemingly postponed to March 9). Thanks to Sean for saving my search time to find a new, simple threaded board (without so many intrusive ads like InsideTheWeb's (server.com will have one ad at the top on March 11, so that I could continue having the new board for free!)) to replace. www.server.com is a simple tools site. We hope you like our new Bulletin, that we just installed today. Visit and post! BTW, we saved everything from that old board, so click the News Archive link in the new board and see...
• GeoCities changed the rules about storing images, so I moved many over to Angelfire. If you visited any of our Links near the end of February in the Shih Tzu Forum and saw some empty images, now you know why. Nothing's wrong with your browsers. I shut everything down in order to quickly restore the images. Now, I'm happy to report that I got done in time without delay. I thought it'd take a lot of my time, but it didn't; it was quicker than I thought! Whew, things are back to normal...
• Oh, my letter about the Tzu on the front cover of Dog World's January 2001 issue, made the Letters to the Editor slot for the following March issue. If you missed it and would like a free copy, send SASE, and I'll be glad to send you one...
• Beau got a new little kitty brother on February 21, 2001: Rudy! He's a 16-month-old red/white Persian (hence his name) from Purrydaze Persians cattery. A wonderful lady, Jenni Markey, knew what I went through with Cleo and gave me Rudy for love. He's a returned cat, because the previous owner feared Toxoplasmosis (germs from cleaning the litter box that can transmit to an unborn baby) when she got pregnant. So far so good! He and Beau get along well, provided that Beau doesn't get too playful towards him. I could tell Beau was happy to see a cat again. Rudy's new Web page is under construction, as I have exciting things to put in there. Keep checking!
• In my last letter here to you, I mentioned about Shirley Jones returning to the autograph show, for San Francisco. She cancelled it and will make it to San Francisco for the fall show.
TTFN!

Note: Especially to WebTV users...mail tends to bounce easily, so listbot.com will automatically remove from our list. If you see that you haven't received my letters to you eventually, it's very possible that you were removed. Contact us to check, and if you were removed, you may go ahead and put yourselves back on our list. Due to time constraints currrently, we can't contact individually when we get notices stating your
e-mail addy was removed. Thanks.

Date: Feb 16 2001 00:44:58 EST From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #22: "Joey" wins #1 at Westminster
Congrats to CH Charing Cross Ragtime Cowboy for making #1 in Toy category again this year at Westminster! He was so beautiful. Too bad the Bichon Frise won BIS (Best in Show). Although the Bichon was terrific, I'm prejudiced and was disappointed that Joey didn't make it. It almost looked like the judge would pick him! Darn...oh, well. Here's the URL for more:
http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2001/shihtzu_r.html
Come meet Reese and read his story via his point-of-view on his first visit to the nursing home. Go to PHOTO GALLERY, which will take you to "Others' Furbabies..." as usual, then go to the top of page 2. Since Beau is a retired pet therapist (1994-97, part-time), when I saw owner Candice / Montanrose (shihtzu4u) post the story and pictures, I decided to ask her permission to use her pictures (I selected one) and to submit her story; she responded with Reese writing his own version of his experience. He looked so cute. If you have petting therapy dog experience, send it to us!
BTW, in our Bulletin, I posted a picture of Shirley Jones at that autograph show (no, her Furbaby, Lulu, wasn't there!). I wasn't there, so thanks to Ray Courts/Family for posting it. She will return, tentatively, to the show in San Fransisco.

Date: Jan 31 2001 22:56:24 EST From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #21: Cleo Memoriam Page / Valentine update
First, I'd like to thank you all so much for your support about dealing with Cleo's death. Beau stopped looking for her, so I guess he figured she's out of our household (he only looked for her once!). He mourned briefly, usually when he was napping (that part's tricky). I just got done making Cleo's Page; I spent 2 weeks on and off building/editing it. Please come visit the Page. When going to the Shih Tzu Forum site, just scroll down a bit, and you'll see all the lavish images. Click "Cleo Memoriam Page". It's a long read...
On February 12-3 is Westminster Dog Show! Here's their URL for more info.:
http://www.westminsterdogshow.org/info.html
Hopefully, you have cable-TV. They'll air on USA channel. Let's hope another Tzu is the big winner, whether Best in Toy group or BIS!
I added more of Vicky's 'diary' updates on Trixie. Hopefully, her right eye heals completely. Too bad nothing could be done for Vicky to prosecute Amy and Sheila. At least, Trixie is safe in her new home away from the freezing weather. I also added more rescue stories (Gayle & Chelsea of Santa Monica, page 3 of "Others' Furbabies..." page) and briefings of rescues in Phoenix and Wisconsin (bottom of "rescues" page).
See you after the Westminster results, if any news on the Tzus!

Date: Jan 19 2001 12:48:16 EST From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #20: Cleo's Passing / other Update
I had just updated my Web pages that are linked to my Shih Tzu Forum site, mostly to announce about Cleo, Beau's kitty-pal (or older sister), who suddenly passed away. I also already added more stuff about Trixie, the rescue Tzu, as well as more pictures for my Tzu Humor page. I will now be working on a Memoriam Page for Cleo.
By now, Beau is already noticing that Cleo's "nowhere to be seen". He was checking out her resting spots. This morning in the shower, he seemingly wondered why she was not in the bathroom with us (every morning when I showered, Beau & Cleo hung around in the bathroom; the steam's good for their lungs)...
Just below is my ccp'd letter that I originally sent out via private
e-mail addys. This one is brief, and I will parlay the rest into the Memoriam Page. Thanks for all of your support.
(snip)
Cleo, my 15½-year-old cat, passed away at approximately 3 PM today, at Carmel Animal Hospital in Phoenix. The cause was hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (heart disease), which likely threw a clot to her brain. The veterinarian said that it was degenerative, so it's a miracle that she had lived this long. I noticed early PM that she was not breathing much and her pupils were very dilated, so my gracious apartment staff rushed
Cleo & me to the animal hospital, amid the horribly delaying traffic. Upon arrival, Cleo was struggling to breathe, whereas the veterinarian was in panic to try to save her by administering extra oxygen. Regardless of all the efforts, she was not saveable since there were no warning symptoms; it happened so fast. (I had the veterinarian to convince me whether I was at fault, which she said not at all. I was concerned whether I could've recognized the symptoms earlier, in order to prevent what happened to her.) An autopsy was performed at my request. I was spending money to save her, then have her body investigated at all costs. I read & hear how cats usually show signs of illness or dying by maybe huddling somewhere in the corner or hiding or acting negative; Cleo displayed none of those. In fact, she was her normal self: her eating & bathroom habits were normal & the same. She was happy & contented & vocal. My God. I had her cremated and will pick up her ashes in the urn. God decided it was her time and was determined to taketh her to Animal Heaven.
Just so you know in advance why I will not be e-mailing or chatting online for a long while.
I will be building a beautiful memoriam Web page for Cleo eventually, so when I get done, I'll e-mail you my Link. It will detail as much that went on today.
As you know, Cleo was like a daughter to me. I got her as a precious
2-month-old kitten, and I pampered & spoiled her. Being a well-loved indoor cat had benefited her health and kept her around for so long, for me to enjoy her company. I was always so flautingly proud that she was my very healthy tuxedo cat. She would've turned "Sweet 16" on Jan. 23. Ironically, I had entered her in the Oldest Cat in America contest offered by Cat Fancy magazine. We will see what happens and what I can do about it...
While my tears are pouring nonstop, I am very happy and in comfort that she is in Heaven and not in pain nor inconvenienced anymore. I am not angry that God took her away, nor am I angry that the veterinarian was unable to save her. I just know that nature is not fair. I would like to thank the verterinarian & 2 veterinarian technicians for all their efforts. They were so available for me despite other obligatory appts. for others (before we arrived at this hospital, we first visited 2 others to no avail; one was closed, the 2nd didn't even have a veterinarian on duty...the technician told me something that I didn't know about, and probably you too, that many veterinarians take Wednesdays off!) They understood my grief, were very sympathetic, and hugged me after allowing my private moment with Cleo alone before making a tough decision what to do with her body. I held & cradled her in the end. My apartment manager delivered me a sandwich, chips, & drink from Subway.
I still have Beau, my 8-year-old Shih Tzu, who still needs me to continue living a normal routine (what animal understands what's going on, right?). He gives me great comfort and, while I can see him grieving a bit, I make every effort not to take my grief onto him which will pressure him. He & Cleo definitely got along like brother & sister; and, he is my son. Meantime, I will definitely get another cat or kitten someday, as I am a cat fancier just as I fancy dogs. I am keeping Cleo's toys, pet carrier, an old stool that served as her scratching post, litter box, collar/tag, and dish. I have lots of pictures of her all over my place & in 2 thick photo albums, as well as video tapes of her antics. Nothing's leaving here; they're too special.

Chinese New Year of the Dragon - Jan. 24...
We've recently become more involved in Tzu rescues, so we started a new Link, "Shih Tzu Rescues". Come check out this Page, which is located in the PHOTO GALLERY, where "Others' Furbabies..." is currently at. Kudos to Aggie & the Wisconsin rescue group for their efforts in taking time off during the holidays to help out little Trixie, a recent rescue. Read Trixie's heroic story about survival in the northern winter. We made sure to put in a warning scroll due to its graphic nature, so just to let you know in advance here.
On the lighter side, we did put in a new "Tzu Humor" Link over the New Year's. Just go to our Shih Tzu Forum Home Page, of course, then scroll down until you see the 'New' logo next to that Link. Come see for a chuckle, and if you have anything to submit, send it to us! Thanks.
Back to the PHOTO GALLERY, we've put in new stuff, such as Tzus we've met over the years, and dog show stuff (educational).
Thanks again for filling out our Survey (Poll).
Coming attraction...Westminster Dog Show!

Hope your Christmas had been what you expected, and that your Tzus loved their gifts!
Here's that new URL to link you to the "News Archive", that I mentioned in my last letter to you:
http://community.webtv.net/shihtzugirl/newscarchive
This is for if you missed out any news due to listbot.com's prone to bouncing some e-mails whenever I sent the messages, or if your had PC problems.
Update:
•Check out our new background image for our Guest Book, as the sitemaster revamped the tools, and I understand it much better how to use it, soooo hope you like the gray embossed Tzu image.
•Why not some of you come back and re-participate the new Survey? Scroll down a bit to see it right there. I terminated with the former sitemaster due to their screwing up by deleting the URL, and there's no way I could paste it back- it couldn't work, so I requested the sitemaster to terminate my accts. The new Survey is from the same tools site as the Guest Book, so it's more user-friendly & fun to use! Hope you like it.
•Our Message Board is now called "Shih Tzu Forum™ Bulletin". We like it better than the former "Shih Tzu Forum Message Board"- too typical!
•Now, remember that Tzu that made the front cover of Dog World magazine, and I mentioned "..Loan Loan..." not being a typo? Well, guess what, Dog World did goof! Thanks to Ann, who told me it's actually one word only: "Loan"...
That's it for now. TTY in 2001!

Date: Dec 01 2000 22:39:28 EST From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #16: Tzu on front cover! / More news Update
I just received a copy of the January, 2001 issue of "Dog World" magazine, and guess who's on the cover? You got that right! Our precious Furbaby! About time. The article's written by Joan Hustace Walker (who's not a Tzu owner), and it pretty much covers the important aspects of owning this wonderful breed: genetic health/diseases, size/hair, temperament/disposition, price range, ASTC, history, and breeding/breeder reputation. Also mentioned: books, videos, and photos information. The breathtaking Tzu on the front cover is 17-month-old CH S'Dandi's On Loan Loan [yes, 2 words- not a typo here!] From God (call name: "Rush"). He's a gold/white owned by Sally and Dick Watkeys of Traverse City, Michigan; photographer is Faith Uridel. Here's the magazine's website: http://www.dogworldmag.com. Other news:
•Thanks to Jackie (and her cockatiels, Boris & Natasha), for her award for our Website, given on November 4, 2000.
•Visit the SoothSoft icon and see what they offer for our precious Furbaby's skin. Maybe they can help solve the various skin problems, if you feel that an oatmeal treatment alone would not work. Based on our Message Board, there have been some comments about skin.
•Tzu owner, actress Shirley Jones from The Partridge Family, will be at the Ray Courts autograph show on January 20 & 21, 2001. Here's the link: http://www.hollywoodcollectorshow.com, if you'd like to navigate how the event runs. Scroll down a bit and click "Hollywood" to see Shirley's name on the list, among other celebrities who will attend. There is a charge for admission and also for an autograph. Here's also Shirley's official website: http://www.shirleyjones.com. Let us know if you plan to attend or have attended in the past.
•We hope you have had a chance to check out our updated Christmas PHOTO GALLERY & NEWS FORUM. As I personally grow with HTML and JavaScript, I have added more exciting stuff to entertain all of you (especially for "WebTV Life & My Pets"). When we first released our Website last June of 1999, it was text only with no pictures and images yet! Wow, how we've improved over time. Just scroll down a bit until you see the "New" icon. What do you think of Santa & Rudolph stopping by and playing with the Tzu and another dog? Rudolph doesn't look too sure how to play with that dog! I made this year's Christmas theme Rudolph, because I feel a deer is a fascinating and at times, helpless creature: they fall prey to hunters and wildlife predators, and they get hit by vehicles; thank God for that sign warning drivers. Of course, Rudolph is an animal, so that's a plus.
•A reminder about the Shih Tzu Web Ring still being there, even after its Web Mistress deleted it from webring.org (seemingly after the merging of webring.org w/ yahoo.com), we're leaving it on our Site as a memoriam! Plus, it's such a pretty picture. •Notice we now have a new hit counter/design. GeoCities removed all the old counters after October, 2000 (w/ no explanation), so we put in a new one from sitemeter.com, as we could set the counter from where it was left off. With Geo, we'd have to start at 0 (no way). We also changed the flag image at the top and put in a new one that matches the bottom one. It looks more authentic! And, a trademark sign.
•And, at last, introducing a new link, Achilles Shih Tzu, from the Phillipines. We noticed it was not on the Shih Tzu/Lhasa Apso links list. We'd just like to thank Achilles for placing our Site on their list of links. They also have important Tzu health information.
In my last letter here, I mentioned in the "next letter", that I'd give you the new link for the Public Archive messages web page (from listbot.com), that we've put together about the past messages being sent. It's too soon now, so perhaps, in the next letter. I just had to write this #16 issue since there are some news to release...
That's it!

Just want to drop a short note to wish you a very merry Christmas.
Since listbot.com will eventually remove the Public Archive messages in storage (one-by-one) starting on December 14 (that I mentioned in my last letter here), I have copied, cut, & pasted everything to be placed on my own new Page. That way, nothing's gone into cyberspace, and you can visit the Page to view all messages sent to you subscibers. It will also make it easier to just visit without having to log on to listbot.com and remembering/looking up your passwords. The Page will be released next month, as it's pretty early right now anyway! The Page will be viewable only to you, so I will give you subscribers the Link in my next letter to you next month...
TTFN!

Just letting you know about the Sahuaro State Kennel Club All-Breed Championship Dog Show this weekend in Phoenix, at the Arizona State Fairgrounds- 19th Ave. & McDowell Rd. (yes, Thanksgiving weekend...I wonder why?), and that I may be there. Possibly on a Saturday. You should find me at the Shih Tzu ring, taping! If I managed to show up there and tape / photograph, I'll be sure to put it on our Website. Here's the link for details: http://www.newportdogshows.com, and click the Sahuaro icon (I gave this link instead of just Sahuaro's link, in case you'd like to see other shows regionally). See you there!
Here's the "NOTICE" below that I copy/cut/pasted, to let you know, in advance, about the Public Archive storage info., that listbot.com posted:

NOTICE
In order to make the ListBot system more efficient, starting Dec. 14, 2000, we will be deleting all archived messages older than one year old. From Dec. 14th onward, messages older than one year will be deleted on a monthly basis.

Date: Nov 02 2000 00:14:56 EST From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #13: Yummy Thanksgiving / Halloween stuff updates
Thanksgiving is coming soon! While many merchants put up Christmas stuff already, it's important to make note of Thanksgiving as a special holiday, too. We decided not to have a lavish Halloween this year, so we stayed home to hang around!
We updated our Halloween stories (really, the Arizona State Fair that we re-printed from the Shih Tzu Forum hard-copy format of the newsletter), as well as more pictures and a cartoon. Just visit our Site and scroll down till you see "New", which makes it easier for you to find what you've been looking for.
We also added more pictures for our Photo Gallery of other Furbabies. We put in a new background image, too. Come visit them and say hello! We thank you so much for your submissions. Continue sending more if you'd like!
As stated in our Message Board, I mentioned that I didn't have Beau at my booth at the Arizona State Fair, due to the heat outside, among other reasons. I figured I'd re-print that story of our 1998 visit to the fair, to make up for it. Maybe next time things run more our way for me to be able to take Beau again, without any interruptions. It was a bit disappointing in not being able to have Beau at the booth. I had a framed picture of him on the table (it was a Shih Tzu picture frame designed by renown artist, Mary Badenhop of Pennsylvania), near my handouts. It did attract attention! BUT, it's always much better whenever Beau's actually sitting next to me. It wasn't really my booth anyway; I was just sharing it as a volunteer, sooo if it was my very own booth, then I'd definitely have Beau with me. I'd arrange it during cooler weather though. Thanks for your visits!
'til next time...

Just letting you know today that at the orientation, I confirmed that I will be at that booth at the Arizona State Fair on Saturday, October 14, from 4 to 6. Stop by and say hi! However, it's not guaranteed that Beau will be there with me; I will decide the day before. See you there!

Welcome to beautiful Autumn (is it already so by you [cooler & leaves color-change]?) and Happy upcoming Halloween. Are you going to dress up your Furbabies? I'm thinking of taking Beau with me to a Halloween party this year, as we didn't go last year. I wonder what I'll dress him up as, and as for me, I'm not too sure yet what either. Since I live in the city, there's always various stuff happening all over. What a selection, and that's GOOD! Whatever the case, I'll be posting more stories and pictures if they happen. Send your stuff, too!
I am attending an orientation to help out at a booth for the Arizona State Fair, which begins on October 12, and ends on October 29. If I'm chosen, I'll know for sure which days and how long I'll be at the booth and, hopefully, with Beau sitting next to me! The last we were at a booth (our own at a mall) was last 1995 and 1996. That was great fun. If you click our "Hearing Dog" Page, you can see a shot of Beau sitting at our booth table. Anyway, if you live in the Phoenix area or are planning to visit and might want to see the Fair, stop by our booth and say hi! We'll be located inside the coliseum (w/ air conditioning, yes!), and the booth should be called Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) (used to be called Arizona Council (ACHI) for the Hearing-Impaired...they recently changed the name). Here's the Fair's website: http://www.accessarizona.com/entertainment/statefair.
See ya!

Date: Aug 25 2000 08:00:17 EDT From: "The SHIH TZU FORUM Listserv" Subject: #9: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dear Beau!
Beau turns 8 on September 1 (mine's Sept. 6)! We just put in a birthday theme in the Site, as well as 2 message boards. The 2nd board in question is a brand-new one called, "WebTV Life Message Board", for WebTV users, about...what else- WebTV life. We opened it on Aug.21, after updating the WEBTV LIFE & MY PETS Page. Come check everything out.
How's your summer been? Ours...ICK! Beau & I spent much of our time indoors w/ air conditioning. So, we devote our web-building pages during the summer. That way, we can enjoy winter here out in nature and take a sabbatical break from page building (excluding updates, of course). We decided to do something different for our PHOTO GALLERY. Instead of it being about Beau & his excursions, we figured why not put in others' Furbabies by now? For our first selection, we have Aggie & Lois from the shihtzu4u egroups list (formerly onelist.com) & their Furbabies. They're active in Tzu rescue in the Wisconsin region, so they're perfect for a first. If you'd like to be included about your Furbabies and/or what you do, come forward! We'd love to take a look and give many a chance to be part of our team...
I don't know yet what I'll be doing for Beau's birthday this year, as "8" is not a special birthday. Did you know that September is Pet Memorial Month? We have a pet cemetery near us, so we're thinking of visiting and sharing what we experienced there. Importantly, we're just eager for COOLER weather to come! Beautiful Autumn is our favorite season.
Take it easy during the remaining of YOUR summer. Happy birthday, also, to your September Furbabies (& you, too, if you're a September baby)! http://www.geocities.com/shihtzuforum

...to say: have a nice summer and keep your Furbabies cool! Beau will be lounging all summer with the air conditioning! There won't be any more updates 'til the end of summer, unless we have anything important or exciting that we'd like to announce or add. Meantime, we just added a summer theme, as well as some cartoons & games to our WEBTV LIFE Page. See ya all before September, when we have things ready for Beau's 8th birthday (wow, I can't imagine him being a Senior dog already)!
BTW, did you know about Take Your Dog to Work Day on Fri. June 23? If you took your Furbabies to work, tell us about it. http://www.pets.com magazine, June 2000 issue, features a Tzu named Alice wearing a pink tutu to work. She's so spoiled, she has her own stuffed Taco Bell Chihuahua dog to play with; otherwise, she'd steal your stuffed things! If you'd like a copy of the column, let us know.

UPDATES:
• June 6 is our 1st Anniversary. Approximately 840 supportive hits. Let's celebrate!
• Check out our new background image for our Message Board. Hope you like the new look. Also, look at the new dogbone .gifs.
• Talk City has revamped our Chat Room again. You don't need to type in our chat name & your password. Just click, and you're right in! They also changed the look. We'd like your help in testing again, to be sure it's all-browser friendly. Contact us to set the best time, MST, for you to conduct a testing w/ us. Your participation is greatly appreciated.
• We removed the Top 100 WebTV Sites link, as the owner publicly announced he's left but will leave his site up. Since that means our Shih Tzu Forum Site won't be listed, it's not worth putting his site on our Site.
• We created a ribbon called "Support WebTV", which is similar to that of AIDS, breast cancer, etc. Click on: http://www.webgurus.com/matic/graphics/42242.gif. You may place on your site if you are a WebTVer or support it. Also, for details: http://www.webgurus.com/matic/graphics/42242.html.
• We added our new Links: Archive and Credits for photos/images that we've used on our Web Pages. Also, 2 Voluminous Pet Albums (one of them about holidays) that we linked to WebTV Life & My Pets main Link. Coming attractions: Links about Beau's Pedigree & Early Moments..., as well as my experience acquiring Beau as a puppy to be my Hearing Ear Dog.
• Vote for Beau's kitty pal CLEO's beauty pageant Page about a Cutest Pet contest, sponsored by petsmart.com: http://cleoandbeau.pages.petsmart.com/cleopageant.html. Help us win stuff (to help save us money, too)!
• Again, feel free to e-mail / snail-mail (contact us directly for postal address) your Tzu materials such as articles, quotes, poems, photos (in
.jpeg/.jpg format), memoriam pages, etc. For your own original creations, you will get credit & a copyright notice. If you made a page to be linked, include that if you'd like. Thanks in advance. Also, be sure to check in on our Message Board; many posters have requested help dealing w/ their Furbabies, and we can't help alone. Some of you may have medical experience, some of you have many Tzus at home, and so forth. Participate, participate! Thanks again!
Whew, our biggest chore is all completed! Now, we can sit back and relax until the next update...
