HISTORY: If not preserved it will ...
be lost. We are in the twilight of the veterans who served aboard the lowly, un-moveing, "Keepers of the Gate".
They had no screws, no sails nor orrs, no way to avoid any 'Harm's Way' except by pulling on mooring cable to shift position.
My interest is in Harbor Defense, primarily the concern of the US Army; HOWEVER at major harbors, entry was controlled by the Harbor Entrance Control Post ( HECP ). This establishment was manned 24 hours a day with representatives of the Senior Navy and Army Commanders. The HECP controlled incoming and outgoing vessels. The Army manned the guns, observation stations and controlled submarine mine fields. The Navy controlled the anti-submarine nets, anti-torpedo nets, anti-boat booms and uncontrolled mine field barriers.
TOGETHER, we safegarded the coast of the USA.
I need HELP from the Navy side, as I have no experience with their service or actions.
