Come with me...

"Do you know where the Sun goes? When the water falls..."

Let's head for...

In the frozen wastelands of Ohio...

"In my eyes... frozen here... Until you all just disappear! Black hole sun, won't you come? And wash away the rain? Black hole sun, won't you come? Won't you come?" --soundgarden

Because it's time for the...

It would appear that we're going to need a coat today! No matter... we've got exciting things to observe today!

You'll barely notice the cold...

Now let's take a peek through the telescope...

And let you enjoy the eclipse!

In the beginning...

The moon only takes the tinest bit out of the surface of the sun..

Within minutes...

It has begun to progress across the surface.

A few minutes later...

It moves closer and closer to the visible sun spots.

Gradually encroaching...

The shadow slides slowly across the face of the sun.

Up close and personal...

The shadow gobbles up the sunspots one by one!

Silently moving...

Until it reaches the maximum!

The resolution...

Through a telescope was tremendous!

Pictures posted here cannot adequately depict how much detail can be seen! (Of course, these were taken with an ordinary 35mm automatic camera held to the eyepiece.) The edge of the moon was not sharp, as you might imagine... but showed the jagged detail of mountain tops!

Then...

Slowly, and silently... it begins to retreat once more.

Moving on....

And the sun spots return yet again.

Until...

Just as quietly as it came... the partial eclipse ended!

What a wonderful experience we've just had!

And to think of what day we've had it on!

What a wonderful present!

Let this image of the eclipsed sun shine through the boughs of the living Christmas tree in the backyard...

Ooooops!

Stared into it just a wee bit too long, didn't we?

I hope you had a wonderful time!

It was truly my pleasure to share this eclipse viewing experience with you...
