INTRODUCTION

The Fifth Brigade is just one of the 20 brigades which make up the STARFLEET Marine Corps (SFMC). The Corps is divided into the eight divisions. The 5th Brigade is located in the 3rd Division (Brigades 4, 5, and 17) of the SFMC.

The Brigade (BDE) numbers correspond to the STARFLEET Region in which they are located. For instance, the 5th Brigade covers the same geographic area as it's STARFLEET counterpart, Region 5.

Furthermore, the Brigades are divided into sections called Battalions (BN). Each Battallion represents a state located within the Brigade. The Battalions in the 5th Brigade are: 1st BN (Idaho), 2nd BN (Montana), 3rd BN (Oregon), and 4th BN (Washington).

Marine Strike Group (MSG):

A Marine Strike Group, or MSG is the most basic unit of the SFMC. An MSG contains one or more STARFLEET Marines and is usually assigned to a ship of the Fleet (STARFLEET Chapter). However, when their is no Ship/Chapter locally available a Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) may be formed.

Each MSG chooses an SFMC Branch to serve under. Some decide to serve as multi-branch or combined service Units. The eight SFMC Branches of Service (BOS) are: Aerospace, Armor, Combat Engineers, Infantry, Mecha, Medical, Special Operations, and Support.

Each Strike Group's Officer In Charge (OIC) reports to their Battalion OIC once every two months. In turn, each level's OIC reports to his/her superior in the Chain of Command on a similar two month schedule. These reports include activities the Unit has, or plans to participate in, and give recognition of achievements or service rendered by the members.

MSGs sometimes compete against each other for fun, or to raise money for a charity they are suppporting. At Christmas-time some MSGs compete to see who can collect the most toys to contribute to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots campaign.

Individually, you may find Marine Strike Groups putting on a car wash or other function to raise funds, with some or all of the proceeds going to a charitable organization or to buy supplies for same. Sometimes it's just for collecting funds to pay for a party, or to help pay for a long distance trip to conventions, museums, amusement parks, etc.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is essential for disseminating information, discussing ideas, planning events, and for relaying problems and concerns. Therefore, the 5th Brigade utilizes an email discussion list as its primary means of communication.

The 5BDE-SFMC List is for the exclusive use of the 5th Brigade's Marines. This is a restricted List and is open only to those Marines who are members of the 5th Brigade. If you are a Marine in the 5th Brigade, please use the link below to subscribe to the List.
