Species: Canine/Dog -- purebred Shih Tzu back 5 pedigrees.

Born: September 1, 1992 at 6 PM in Glendale, Arizona. Secondborn. AKC accepted Shih Tzu in Toy Group--September 1, 1969. "Beau" -- French for 'handsome'.

Appearance: liver/white full coat; approx. 15" L / 11" H, 13-15 lbs.

Status: Pedigreed/AKC-registered as "Taco Bello". Neutered.

Canine Family: Four brothers, one sister. Shanghai Shih Tzu kennel.

Owner: Karen officially adopted Beau on December 2, 1992 from breeder Debi Knapp.

Hobbies: Kitty-pals Rudy & Brandy, fetching, going out & about in town!

Success: Earned nomination "in recognition of dogs in the service of mankind" by the American Kennel Club Awards for Canine Excellence--July 8, 2002 and 'Honorable Mention'--September 12, 2002;
Earned nomination for "Media Award", by the City of Phoenix Mayor's Commission on Disability Issues, for outstanding achievements for Hearing Ear Dog Law Information Center (Ability Counts Awards Program)-- June 29, 1998;
Earned CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION with Karen as a Nominee "for exemplary teamwork demonstrating the power of the human/animal bond", presented by the Delta Society for the Service and Therapy Animal (Hearing Dog) Awards-- 1997, 1995.

Karen Catalioto wholly taught Beau since he was three months old. Born hearing-impaired in New Jersey September 6, 1964, attended public schools, earned Associate degree at Phoenix College/Honors 3.5 GPA/President's List, also attended Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University, studies/volunteers for dogs and cats in freelance writing, promotes pet love & ownership responsibility, publisher of the Shih Tzu Forum(tm) quarterly hobby newsletter- 1998-9 (full-time on the web-2000+), founder of Hearing Ear Dog Law Information Center(tm)-1995 (originally the name of booth established at Chris Town Mall w/ Beau), enjoys 1970s nostalgia, Bon Jovi, Keanu Reeves, movies, crafts (rubber stamping & scrapbooking & dollhouse miniatures). Currently serving on board as Director at Large for Phoenix College Alumni Association (2002-04).
