Good health is our most essential gift in life and knowing how to protect and build it up is worth every effort to learn about it. So I've begun with three very distinctive practices that define what influences health.

I do not place one above the other but all three can create a powerhouse of health, by themselves or in sinc with each other.
Of course, you need to consult with your doctor before beginning a defined change in your diet, especially if you have health problems.

My family doctor is also an Aryuvedic practicioner. She has guided me in making changes in my diet.

"Live Right 4 Your Blood Type" and "Cook Right 4 Your Blood Type" by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo

There are 4 basic blood types.
O type (positive or negative), which is Hunter/Gather ancient DNA.
A, B, AB. One is Mediterraen based and fairs best with those diets, and one is a "new" blood type being more food sensitive and one type faring better as vegetarians.

Each is genetically prone to specific diseaces. Each has it's own adaptability or tolerance toward foods according to ancient DNA. Learning this can certainly help set things straight. I use it.

Much of what we eat we have taken for granted that it's healthy or at the least, safe to consume. Sadly that isn't often true.

Our bodies have had to adapt as best they can to new variations, combinations and adulterations of foods...including chemicals; cooking practices of using microwave ovens, high heats, deep frying; genetic engineering; irradiating, etc..etc..
Coming from other countries or cultures, assuming the typical diet of this one, can add great challenge to the health of the body.

It's my intent to help you find some enlightenment here to blaze a trail to better health. "Good Hunting!"

This science identities the effects that foods and liquids have on the body by way of the following qualities:

Heating, warming, chilling, cooling, neutral, dry, damp, etc.

We can unwittingly consume what complicates or aggrevates an existing health condition or even create a new condition. According to the information I have read about it, changing the diet can correct many conditions.

We can consciously consume what strengthens and enhanses the type of condition we desire in ourselves, or correct a condition, according to the information given.

ARYUVEDIC PRINCIPLES OF HEALTH

Aryuvedic science identifies the three types of bodily temperment and the foods that effect them.

These are my simplistic definitions:
Kaffa types are calm, laid back.
Vata types are energetic, active.
Pita types are excitable, forceful.

Foods can be used to stablize, energize, or activate a "type" which is called a "dosha."
The effects foods have on the doshas are similar to those of Chinese discription.


SUMMERY:

We have four blood types prone to specific illnesses and we have strengths and weaknesses due to our DNA.

We have three basic temperments (doshas) and various combinations of them and their sensitivies to foods. One type (dosha) of the three is more dominant usually.

Food effects our Interior like weather.

The effects of foods manifest as symptoms in our bodies.

What I have read states that we should balance our diet with about 80% alkaline foods and 20% acid foods. this makes for a healthier body-blood state.

However, our typical western diet is the reverse. One report stated that cancer cannot thrive in an alkaline body.
On the other hand, we can be too much of either condition and experience illness. Balance then is the goal.

These strips help you determine approximately how acidic or alkaline your system is with a color chart..it's easy to read and can determine your PH any given hour or day.. Our grocery Health Dept sells a strip package for $13.99.

A CHOLESTEROL Test Kit is made by Johnson & Johnson. It's called, "Advanced Care Cholesterol Kit".
It's described as having credit card size testing cards that indicate by color code, the total cholesterol count..is considered 97% accurate, which to me seems like a good monitoring tool.

It won't replace a complete blood work-up. It's always a good practice to have a screening done every year or so...in the mean time this can help you get where you need to be after a screening if your count is too high.

Some weeks later,.one of my friends, Ria, wrote back to tell me about the impact the article had on a friend she had sent it to.

OILS: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

CHEMICAL TOXICITY -

I had heard from a friend that Ion Cleanse was very beneficial for drawing out chemical toxins from the body. She had tried it and found it beneficial. So I went on the hunt for someone who did the treatment.

I found a chiropractor in Lamoni, IA who did and drove the hundred miles to try it out.
Doug and I both tried it.

The chiropractor told us about a middle aged farmer near by, who was so sick with farm chemicals that the doctors couldn't do anything for him and his health was in a fatal condition. The doctors gave him little time to live.
The farmer came to him for help and ion treatments were started one everyday, then three times a week, and finally down to once a week.. the man was cleaned out and back to health in about a month or so.
That's a success story.

STEALTH VIRUS, BACTERIA & FUNGI ~ PART 1

Infections cannot be separated from the conditions that invite pathogens to proliferate.
This seems to boggle the minds of orthodox
medical scientists who seem to be able to only focus on one thing at a time.
      The field of infectious disease is unable to treat a broad range of chronic diseases that are plaguing humanity because of blinders that prevent it from addressing yeast and fungi invaders as well as the simplest most primitive bacteria and viruses.
The majority of allopathic doctors resort to antibiotics, which are only effective for a narrow band of pathogens with the further detraction of devastating the body in a range of ways. Their other weapon of choice is vaccines to prevent viral infections and this opens a murky door to vaccine injury of one type or another. Neither of these weapons lays a finger on a broad and threatening range of fungi and does even less to alleviate what are called L-bacteria or mycoplasmas which take up residence inside our cells and cause havoc from within.
Mycoplasma infection is respiratory illness caused by Mycoplasma pneumonia, a microscopic organism related to bacteria and fungi.(1)
     We live in a dangerous world and anything that throws us out of balance invites pathogens to take up residence in our bodies. Modern medicine has to come to grips with its ineptitude, with its reluctance to deal with the full gamut of pathogens as a physicist has to deal with the full range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Medicine is even worse at looking at some of the primary root causes of pathogen overload like mercury, which is an ever growing threat to humanity that has already contaminated the earth.
     A pertinent point comes from Dr. Isaac Pessah at U.C. Davis. His work showed that even very low concentrations of thimerosal (mercury) damaged the immune system.Β  It happened in this way:
Dendritic cells are the kingpins of the immune system. Each dendritic cell controls 200-300 T cells. When dendritic cells are affected by mercury, they first begin to send aberrant signals to the T-cells and when further damaged, they cease to send signals.Β  Perhaps T cells in the brain are unable to function normally after mercury affects their controllers. This would give bacteria and viruses that reach the brain (including those introduced thru vaccines), the opportunity to do damage.
Mercury is invading humanity not only in vaccines (2) but in the air we breathe, the water we drink, it's in our foods as well as in our dental fillings.
     Scientists at Arizona State University tell us that antibiotic use is known to almost completely inhibit excretion of mercury in rats due to alteration of gut flora, (3) and even with the known fact that antibiotics are creating powerful resistant bacterial strains does not stop doctors from using them to their hearts and pharmaceutical companies content. In this chapter we will employ iodine (imbedded in a protocol) as the correct broad spectrum anti-pathogen capable of taking out all foreign proteins that do not belong in our bodies.

~CANCER & DIABETES~

The field of infectious disease does not consider cancer or diabetes to be in part or in full infectious diseases though main stream oncology admits that infections are a cause of up to 40 percent of cancer. Now we find that enteroviruses have been found in pancreatic tissue from 60% of children with type 1 diabetes, but not in children without the disease. (4) UK researchers have also found that 40% of adults with type 2 diabetes had signs of the infection in insulin-producing cells.
Every first year med student knows that until you
know what's causing a disease it's very hard to treat it.

     The latest research, published in Diabetologia, was made possible by a pathologist in Glasgow who for 25 years collected tissue samples from children across the UK who had died less than 12 months after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Dr Alan Foulis believed that enteroviruses - a common family of viruses which cause symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea - would be present but until recently the technology was not sensitive enough to detect them.
Enterovirus infection can trigger the immune reaction that kicks off the destruction of beta cells in the pancreas.
     
Professor Noel Morgan from the Peninsula Medical School, said the results showed the underlying infection with enteroviruses were not "rare events". Karen Addington, chief executive of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, who funded the research, said the findings were important as the incidence of type 1 diabetes is increasing every year and there is currently no way to prevent it, which of course is not true. What she meant was that allopathic medicine has no clue how to prevent or treat type one diabetes.
A person with Type 1 diabetes may be offered some hope when they learn that some researchers were able to halt the onset of Type 1 diabetes by using an antifungal drug within four months of the onset of the disease.

     Dr. A.V. Constantini, former head of the WHO (World Heatlh Organization) Collaborating Center for Mycotoxins in Food and pulmonologist and clinical professor at the University of California has spent 20 years studying and collecting data on the role fungi and mycotoxins play in devastating diseases. In his research he found a number of mycotoxins that demonstrate specific toxicity to the pancreas. In his findings he states that the fusarium toxin fumonisin, T-2 mycotoxin and diacetoxyscripenol, all common in corn and its products, produce pancreatic cell damage. Fumonisin contaminates corn with the greatest frequency and is present in corn in particularly high concentrations. Virtually all corn is contaminated with mycotoxins of one type or another 5 and now we find out that corn oil is contaminated with mercury because of the way it is processed.
Fungi and their mycotoxins manipulate their hosts on the cellular level,
and prevent us from defending ourselves by subverting the immune
system. Fungi perform around 350 different hormone conversions.
     It is suspected that this may be a prime reason for the epidemic of diabetes spreading through Latin American countries, due to their use of corn as a major staple in their diets.  According to the CDC data on prevalence of diabetes in the USA, overall, the age-adjusted diabetes prevalence among Hispanics was approximately twice that among non-Hispanic whites, and at age 45 or older, the prevalence of diabetes is 1.4 to 2.3 times as frequent in blacks as in whites.  35% of all white children today will have diabetes by 45-50 and over 50% of hispanics and non-whites will have this disease.

Information on mycotoxins, mostly coming from corn products,
and mercury now being found in HFCS hi fructose corn syrup
is dire for what they may together be causing in our civilization.
     A treatment program called the Marshall Protocol is a medical treatment being used by physicians worldwide to treat a variety of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases including (but not limited to) sarcoidosis, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, fibromyalgia, Crohn's Disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. The Marshall Protocol is a phase II community-based internet study that is monitored by the FDA and is based on the hypothesis that chronic diseases (termed Th1 illnesses), are the result of infection by an intraphagocytic, metagenomic microbiota of chronic bacterial forms that are often referred to as the Th1 pathogens. The term intraphagocytic refers to the fact that these bacteria have developed the ability to remain alive and proliferate undetected inside the cytoplasm of the cells they infect. These cells include macrophages, the very cells of the immune system that the body uses to kill invading pathogens. Once inside these cells, they cause our own cells to release inflammatory cytokines (proteins that often generate pain and/or fatigue).

Pathogens act in ways which cause them to evade the immune system and once they
gaine a foothold, disrupt the mitochondria, leading to low cellular energy, which makes
them even more vulnerable to pathogen invasion and heavy metal accumulation.
     Many of the Th1 pathogens are also postulated to be in a chronic state referred to as the L-form. L-form bacteria simply represent part of the natural life cycles of classical bacteria. Under certain conditions, they mutate from classical bacteria, losing their cell walls in the process. Also known as Mycoplasmas L-forms are a specific unique species of bacteria - the smallest free-living organism known on the planet. The primary differences between mycoplasmas and other bacteria is that regular bacteria have a solid cell-wall structure and they can grow in the simplest culture media. Mycoplasmas however, do not have a cell wall, and like a tiny jellyfish with a pliable membrane, can take on many different shapes which make them difficult to identify, even under a high powered electron microscope.
Mycoplasmas can also be very hard to culture in the laboratory and are often missed as pathogenic causes of diseases for this reason.

     The accepted name was chosen because Mycoplasmas were observed to have a fungi-like structure (Mycology is the study of fungi - hence "Myco") and it also had a flowing plasma-like structure without a cell wall - hence "plasma". The first strains were isolated from cattle with arthritis and pleuro-pneumonia in 1898 at the Pasteur Institute. Although researchers have known about L-form bacteria for over a century, up until recently they have not fully understood their role in causing chronic disease. Because they lack a cell wall, many antibiotics are unable to kill them directly and they cannot be detected by standard laboratory tests.

Mycoplasmas, unlike viruses, can grow in tissue fluids (blood, joint, heart, chest and spinal fluids) and can grow inside any living tissue
cell without killing the cells, as most normal bacteria and viruses will do.

Several years ago,
I had my annual check up and
found that my cholesterol had gotten up to 283.

Home I went with cholesterol lowering prescription in hand and determination to get back on track!
Hm... specialist doctor told me that modifying my diet would only net a 10% reduction in cholesterol

By what he said, with diet modification I could only hope to alleviate my count by 28 points ...bringing it down to 255!

Knowing what I do now about the side affects of Statin drugs, it was foturnate that
I only took the drugs one week.
In the mean time, I stopped eating or drinking anything with sugar or refined carbohydrates.

I drank lots of water and a few cups of coffee during the day...gave up breads, sweets and processed foods...kept to non-starchy or low-starch vegetables and lean meats.

At my next scheduled follow up three months later...my cholesterol was at 171....!!!

This says to me that what we choose to eat does affect our health...Period!!
I have to admit, that after a period of time, my body was craving a lot of things. It wasn't easy, but it was do-able.

Once we reach menopause, develop thyroid problems, diabetes, etc..our systems slow down and it is much more of a challenge to get the weight off and the cholesterol down...much less the desire to make those tough changes...but it can be done..a little at a time and build a good foundation of nutritional change.

Just this year.('08)..I had another check up and found that my cholesterol was up again to 283 ( must be my favorite plateau) and I had let down my guard about diet choices..
So I began again...to curb my diet but not go on such a stringent diet as before but add some exercise and within three months got it down to 233...that's 50 points off!
And I released ten pounds! At my age, that is a thrill!

Do consult your doctor to keep track of things and if you're lucky and have a savvy doctor like I do, she or he will work with you and monitor your progress.
