We need to especially pray for our women, and ask the Creator to bless them and give them strength. Inside them are the powers of love and strength given by the Moon and the Earth. When everyone else gives up, it is the women who sings the songs of strength. She is the backbone of the people. ODE TO THE INDIGENOUS by Vicky © 2004 One by one, the small remnants of humaninty are engulfed by the tide of homogenization. Each life connection to an ancient time absorbed into the vast basin of nebulous obscurity. Soon the flavor of life on the planet will be "bland" like the color gray. Where those who had meaning within a group of ancient dreams become "useless" to the machine of stressful repetitive motion. Let your consciousness dwell on what that means. MESSAGE OF THE MONK STONE I've always had a fascination with stones. Even when a kid, my closet usually contained a box or two of stones I'd found in the desert while out and about. Today my collections include crystals and semi prescious stones. Friends also bring me stones from their travels. So I have stones in almost every room of the house functioning in some manner. One fall afternoon, while sitting near my mother's pool, I began looking in the gravel surround and found a most unusual stone. It had embedded in it an image much like that of a kneeling monk in prayer!! So of course, I kept it and still have it..after 30 years. Finally I had a meditation with it as I held it in my hand and "listened." ~ø~ The Monk Stone Message: Holding it in meditation, the stone tells me that it's purpose is to remind me of Humility and that it will exist eons after my mortal coil has disappeared. That is humbling. Stones have no gender but only what is imprinted into them by the use they are given. Some Stones are sanguine, it told me. Some Stone People are abrasive, you won't feel good around them. They make you feel uncomfortable. But if you find a "special" one, and can feel the 'seperation protection barrier' you can use it like a shield. Much like a shield, it does not love you or feel toward you, but it does protect you. That is an abrasive stone brother. It will shield you from emotional things." ~ø~ It's advised that you never let others handle your medicine stones or medicine bags. Not only can it difuse the energy of the stones, but it can imprint on the person who then may not be able to discern their own stones. (According to the Monk stone.) ____¥_____ The world is fascinating. One Christmas I sent my Nephew an ornate box of rocks for a present. Inside the box was an explanation of how the stones teach. I also wrote some humorous ideas like telling his friends that his aunt sent him a box of rocks..and that I bet he would never forget the gift!! My mother told me that he studied those rocks with great interest while others were going about the day's celebration. I love the lore that it's the aunts or grandmothers that teach the boys wisdom. The various shapes of the stones show us how to handle the lessons of life. As she so often does, friend CeCe found this information and gave it to me and I gathered the stones from far and wide. Also: In your pocket or a small bag, carry two stones of the same size...round and smooth..one white, one black. If you need an answer reach in and pick one. it will mean white/yes or black/no. Some stones can function as "comfort stones"...I have one I found from the very desert area where, as a child, I spent so much time enjoying. When I feel the need I hold it. It fits the form of my hand perfectly. Once you become aware of your connection to stones..they will "find you."

NEW MOON HEALING CIRCLE It was in 1994 that Doug and I attended a New Moon Healing Circle in Des Moines, about 100 miles from home. It was there that I met Launie Sorem who led the the circles. Tall, statuesque of Arapaho lineage, she looked like the Earth Mother to me, a warm heart, loving and nurturing. She welcomed me home. So powerful and moving were the healing circles that we drove the hundred miles each month for about a year, regardless of what day of the week, or that it was near midnight when we returned home...!! it was worth it! It was Launie's example that inspired me to take up the work of the circle, and her belief and encouragement that I was ready for it, the wind in my sails. This opened up a new direction in my life with more meaning than I could ever have imagined! It was then I began my studies of Native American wisdoms. I hope to honor that small portion of Iriquois I carry from my mother's lineage to distant generations, to that first native woman who contributed to our being here. (If I am not, infact, her. :-). I dedicate my circles and this page to her. Though I don't know how far back nor her name, I call her "Singing Water". My symbol is "Medicine Star." My native name is "She Who Walks In Water" Astrologically I belong to the Thunderbird Clan. I grew up riding an "Indian Pony" bareback long before having a saddle! (see my bio story)

Many feathers adorn the Talking Stick...Turkey for gratitude, Pheasant for abundance, Crow for wisdom, red feathers for courage and the Lead Feather, the Guinea Hen...who tells all to Spirit.

All the feathers were gifted to me. Crow feathers find me. All the other feathers were given to me by friends who came to my circle...
EXECPT: the Guinea feather, that was a gift from Spirit!

The large red leather bag, with Crow and Seagul feathers, contains my medicine circle stones...and friend, CeCe created the small medicine bag with my symbol on it which holds my power items.

The Abalone shell was found by my mother on the northeastern shores of Rhode Island. She is the link to our Iroquois lineage.
