The following is from a very good source & he doesn't know I stole it from a ng post: Webtv can play the ones marked .s3m, .xm, and .mod. Stick to filesizes under 200k. For email sigs, it's probably best to find ones 50k or less, or else they will take too long to load.
Mod files are an advanced form of MIDI, which include samples of real-world sounds. They load into memory before playing, and so avoid the poor quality and skipping which afflicts .ram files (unfortunately, that also limits the size which Webtv can handle). They are probably the best quality (in terms of sound) available to WebTV.
