"Saint Jerome in his Study" by Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio (1573-1610)

Vulgate di Biblia Jerome was commissioned by the Pope to put all the books of the Bible into one collected work during the fourth century.  His work is called the "Vulgate" which means the vernacular because it was a translation of the Bible into Latin which was the language of that time in the Roman Empire.
